Chapter 99
Mia Lawrence let out a sigh of relief.
She thought for a moment.
She suggested softly, "You have to work during the day, so you can only find a part-time job for the evenings."
Anna Ross's eyes lit up.
As long as there was a source of income, it would be worth it no matter how tired she got.
"It's fine, I can handle hard work."
The decision to leave San Francisco had filled her with courage.
Now she just wanted to save enough money quickly to take her mother away.
Mia hugged her, her heart aching.
"You earn money only to spend it on others. You work so hard, it hurts me to see it."
As Anna's best friend, she had witnessed the other's most difficult times.
She understood how hard-won this strength was.
But Anna smiled easily.
"It will get better eventually."
There were more opportunities in New York than in San Francisco.
She could work several jobs at the same time.
Being a little more tired didn't matter.
"I'll keep an eye out for part-time job leads for you. I'll let you know as soon as something suitable comes up." Mia rested her head on Anna's shoulder and gradually fell asleep.
Listening to her friend's even breathing, Anna felt warmth in her heart. It felt so good to have someone to confide in and rely on. Having such a friend was how she had managed to endure until now.
She still had work tomorrow, so she didn't dare stay up late. She gently pulled up the covers.
At the same time, in the most bustling area of New York.
A black Maybach stopped in front of a retro-style villa.
Adrian Sinclair stepped out of the car.
The butler hurried to greet him.
"Young Master, the old master has been waiting for you for a long time."
He looked toward the direction of the living room and walked over at a leisurely pace.
On the living room sofa sat a silver-haired old man.
Though advanced in years, he was energetic and had a powerful presence.
Adrian smiled.
"Grandpa."
Hearing his voice, Grandpa Frederick stood up.
He walked over with vigorous strides.
"You're finally here. Have you eaten?"
The two sat down on the sofa.
Adrian was uncharacteristically relaxed.
"I've eaten."
"With Chloe Valentine, right?" Grandpa Frederick smiled kindly. Adrian smiled without answering.
A servant brought fresh tea.
Grandpa Frederick took a sip.
"Chloe is a good girl. She specially came to New York with you." He paused. "Why not take this opportunity to set the engagement?"
"Let's wait a bit longer. I want to get to know her better." The words almost spilled out of Adrian's mouth. Whenever marriage was mentioned, he would always think of Anna's disappointed expression.
He drained his teacup, unwilling to dwell on it.
Seeing his refusal, Grandpa Frederick didn't insist.
"You've always had your own ideas. We'll do it your way."
