Chapter 67
Anna Ross offered a faint smile.
"It's fine."
Her voice was soft.
Sophia Roscente didn't need to worry about her.
She was just the Executive Assistant Adrian Sinclair had forced to come along.
What opinion could she possibly have?
Yet her heart felt heavy, like a stone was lodged inside.
A dense, uncomfortable weight.
All she wanted now was to leave.
Surprise flickered in Sophia's eyes.
She glanced furtively at Adrian Sinclair.
He appeared even calmer than Anna.
Sophia decided to turn up the heat.
She gave a playful, charming laugh.
"That's good then."
She suddenly turned her head.
She planted a kiss on Adrian's cheek.
She smiled like a cat that got the cream.
Anna's expression froze.
She hadn't expected Sophia to be so direct.
Adrian's face darkened instantly.
He shot a look at Sophia.
His eyes held a clear warning.
Sophia stuck out her tongue.
She lowered her head to eat.
But her peripheral vision remained fixed on Anna.
Adrian also looked at Anna.
Her face was completely unreadable.
A sharp pang pierced his chest.
Did she really not care at all?
Another woman had just kissed him.
And it meant nothing to her?
Rage surged within him.
His fingers clenched tightly around his fork and knife.
His knuckles turned white.
Sophia served him some food.
She leaned in and whispered close to his ear.
She covered her mouth with a light, tinkling laugh.
Adrian glanced at Anna.
She seemed visibly uncomfortable.
A smirk suddenly tugged at his lips.
He also leaned close to Sophia's ear to speak.
Sophia giggled playfully and hit his shoulder.
"You're awful!"
"There are other people here!"
They both looked at Anna simultaneously.
Their gazes seemed to say she was the third wheel.
Anna felt like she was sitting on pins and needles.
She put down her fork and knife.
"Excuse me."
"I got some grease on my clothes."
"I need to go clean it."
She stood up and left the table.
Her retreating figure was hurried.
Sophia immediately looked at Adrian.
"Cousin, just give it up."
"She doesn't like you."
Adrian's face grew even colder.
He put down his fork and knife with a heavy thud.
"I told you not to cause trouble."
Sophia was indignant.
"What does that have to do with me?"
"You like her."
"But she feels nothing for you."
"You're just embarrassed your pride got hurt."
The air suddenly went quiet.
Only the sound of footsteps from the surrounding area remained.
Adrian stood up.
"I'm going to the restroom."
He left with a cold expression.
Sophia watched his retreating back.
She muttered under her breath.
"Got his ego bruised and now he's sulking."
"It's rare for a woman to reject him."
"This should be interesting to watch."
Anna was lost in thought in the restroom.
She didn't want to go back and watch their intimate display.
Her brow was furrowed tightly.
She finally let out a sigh.
Hiding away forever wasn't a solution.
She turned and walked out of the restroom.
Only to run straight into Adrian Sinclair.
He was walking toward her, his face completely blank.
Anna's heart leaped into her throat.
She met his gaze for a few seconds.
Then she hurriedly looked down.
