Chapter 241

Grandpa's gaze returned to her.

Adrian Sinclair continued, "She's mentioned wanting to visit you before, but her schedule at the company has been too hectic."

"I'm finished. Please enjoy your meal." Grandpa set down his fork and knife.

Henry immediately stepped forward to assist him away from the table.

Adrian's words were cut short.

He frowned deeply, watching his grandfather's retreating figure.

When he turned back, his expression had returned to normal.

Howard Lowell glared at Anna Ross with clear distaste.

He studied her delicate features.

She was pretty and pleasant.

She should have charmed the elders.

Why did his father react so negatively?

There was even a hint of disgust.

Vivian Lowell looked at her daughter with concern, gently squeezing her hand.

Anna responded with a calm smile, reassuring her mother not to worry.

She had thought Grandpa merely disliked her.

Now it seemed he actively disapproved.

She didn't understand why a first meeting provoked such a reaction.

But she quickly decided it didn't matter.

They would leave Howard Lowell soon enough.

Then the Lowell family would be irrelevant.

Adrian watched her for a moment.

He then set down his own utensils.

He wiped his mouth and sat quietly, waiting.

Howard finished his meal quickly.

Anna had little appetite and only ate a few bites before stopping.

After the meal, Howard tried to approach Grandpa again.

Henry stopped him. "Sir is resting. Please do not disturb him."

Howard's face darkened with anger.

He was about to argue when Henry added, "Please don't make this difficult for me."

He was just the messenger.

This was ultimately Grandpa's decision.

If Grandpa refused to see him, going upstairs would achieve nothing.

Howard understood immediately.

"Let's go," he said coldly.

There was no point staying today.

Better to return home and wait for news.

As long as they remained in New York, there would be other opportunities.

Vivian was accustomed to such scenes.

She stood calmly, waiting.

Adrian emerged from the restroom and walked briskly toward them.

Anna took her mother's hand. "Mom, you should go back. I need to return to the office."

She had left work without permission.

She wondered how Adrian would react.

Howard turned back impatiently. "She has to work. Why are you holding her? Do you want to go with her?"

Nothing was going right.

Losing face to that young man was bad enough.

Even his stepdaughter failed to win Grandpa's favor.

Anger burned in his eyes.

Vivian reluctantly released her daughter's hand.

She followed Howard toward the car.

Adrian and Anna saw them off.

After the car drove away, Anna explained, "Leaving work today was my mistake. You can deduct it from my pay."

The man in front of her remained silent for a long time.

She looked up into the sunlight.

His brow was slightly raised. "When did I say I would blame you?"

Anna stared at him in confusion.

He wasn't angry?

Before she could respond, Adrian turned and walked away.

She paused for a moment.

The heavy pressure in her heart suddenly lifted.

A sense of relief washed over her.
