Chapter 263

Anna Ross took a deep breath and reluctantly replied, "Understood."

He had been so angry just moments ago, and she thought his fury would last. Yet he returned to normal so quickly. She couldn't help but admire that.

Adrian Sinclair said nothing more. He turned and walked toward the conference room. His steps were sharp, his back cold and distant.

Lucas Evans stayed where he was. He waited until Adrian was far away before looking at Anna.

He asked softly, "How have you been lately? It's been a while since we last met."

Anna lowered her eyes, avoiding his gaze. "Same as always. Nothing special."

She stepped around him and continued forward.

Lucas kept pace with her, his tone gentle. "Autumn has arrived in New York. The mornings and evenings are chilly. Remember to dress warmly."

Anna gave a faint nod.

The wind indeed carried a cool edge, swirling a few dried leaves.

Lucas suddenly lowered his voice. "Is he forcing you again?"

Anna's face paled. She urgently signaled for him to be quiet.

She glanced toward the conference room and whispered, "I'm just here to work. No one is forcing me. You should worry about yourself."

Lucas reached out to grab her arm, but she hurried away.

He clenched his fist, determination flashing in his eyes. He would never let anyone pressure her again!

Inside the conference room.

Adrian Sinclair sat alone at the head of the table, his expression unreadable.

Anna and Lucas entered one after the other.

His cold gaze swept over them, irritation rising within him.

So defensive and prickly with him, yet so docile and obedient with others? Could she not see that man's intentions?

A file slammed onto the table with a sharp crack.

"Mr. Evans, if you're here to discuss cooperation, show some professionalism." He looked up, his gaze sharp. "Don't waste my time."

"Did it really take you that long to walk a short distance?" His words carried a hidden meaning as his eyes flicked toward Anna.

She froze in place, not daring to move. He was losing his mind againโ€”he was the one who walked fast, yet he blamed them for being slow.

Lucas calmly took a seat, meeting his gaze. "My legs are my own. I decide my pace."

Adrian scoffed. "Then there's no need to discuss cooperation."

Anna held her breath. These two weren't here to do business. They were here to argue.

A headache was brewing.

"Perfect. I don't care about the cooperation anyway." Lucas looked up, his eyes fixed on the person behind Adrian. "I came today for one reason only: to take her away."
