Chapter 25

Anna Ross was jolted awake by a shrill ringing.

She kept her eyes closed, fumbling under her pillow for her phone.

The screen displayed an unknown number.

She hung up out of habit.

Rolling over, she pulled the blankets tighter.

She had been awake until dawn last night.

All she wanted now was more sleep.

Her phone vibrated again.

She dismissed it with irritation.

The ringing started a third time.

Anna snatched up her phone.

"Who is this, disturbing my sleep so early?!"

She yelled, her voice thick with sleep.

Silence answered from the other end.

A sudden chill ran down Anna's spine.

She instinctively pulled the blankets closer.

"Anna Ross, did you just yell at me?"

An icy voice cut through the receiver.

She was instantly wide awake.

It was Adrian Sinclair.

She scrambled for an excuse.

"I was just talking in my sleep..."

Her voice betrayed her guilt.

Adrian cut her off coldly.

"An Executive Assistant should have some awareness."

"Get up for work. Now."

Anna glanced at the clock. It was only six.

She cursed him inwardly as a ruthless boss.

Outwardly, she answered with deference.

"Okay. I'm getting up right now."

"You have fifteen minutes to meet me."

The call ended abruptly.

She leapt from bed and rushed into the bathroom.

Fifteen minutes later, she was sprinting out the door.

Adrian was leaning against his car, waiting.

His long legs were crossed in a lazy posture.

His gaze swept over her flustered appearance.

"Get in."

He commanded simply.

Anna obediently slid into the passenger seat.

The car headed in an unfamiliar direction.

She looked uneasily at the driver's seat.

"This isn't the way to the office?"

Adrian signaled a turn.

"You'll find out when we arrive."
