Chapter 50
He moved to push her hand away.
Chloe Valentine's eyes instantly reddened.
Her voice trembled with hurt. "Grandpa specifically asked us to spend more time together yesterday."
"He wants us to build a connection."
"I don't want to disappoint him."
"If you're truly too busy, then forget it."
She lifted a hand to gently wipe the corner of her eye.
She stole a glance at his reaction.
Hearing the word "Grandpa," Adrian Sinclair's knuckles turned white.
His cold gaze swept over her red-rimmed eyes.
He finally spoke in a flat tone. "Let's go."
"I'll have dinner with you."
Chloe felt a secret thrill.
She quickly followed his steps, acting obedient.
A black Mercedes-Benz stopped in front of an upscale restaurant.
Adrian deftly unbuckled his seatbelt and got out.
Chloe hurried after him.
She naturally linked her arm with his.
A sweet smile bloomed on her face.
"Adrian, I love this restaurant."
"I've been here several times."
"I specifically wanted to bring you here today."
Adrian gave her a faint, strained smile.
He walked into the restaurant.
That smile made Chloe's heart race.
It strengthened her resolve to win this man.
The restaurant had soft lighting.
Chloe carefully selected a table.
Adrian seemed distracted.
"Let's sit by the window." She pointed to a spot with a good view.
Adrian nodded.
He followed her to the seat.
As Chloe adjusted her hair, she spotted a familiar figure.
Anna Ross was here.
She was chatting happily with a man.
A smirk touched Chloe's lips.
She stood and walked over to greet them. "Executive Assistant Ross, what a coincidence."
Anna Ross and Lucas Evans were interrupted.
They both looked surprised.
Anna responded politely. "Miss Valentine, it is a coincidence."
Chloe gave Lucas a meaningful look.
She returned to her seat, satisfied.
"Adrian, Executive Assistant Ross is here with her boyfriend."
"They seem to be having a great time."
Adrian narrowed his eyes.
His gaze turned intense as he looked in that direction.
Anna really hadn't enjoyed a meal this much in a long time.
She and Lucas talked easily.
She unconsciously drank too much of her beverage.
"I need to use the restroom." She smiled apologetically.
Lucas nodded understandingly. "Alright, I'll wait for you."
Anna checked the time.
She stood and headed for the restroom.
The restaurant was bustling with noise.
The hallway to the restroom was unusually quiet.
"Having dinner with him makes you that happy?"
A cold voice suddenly rang out.
Anna looked up sharply.
Her heart skipped a beat.
Adrian stood before her, his face dark.
Anger burned in his eyes.
He took a step forward, looming over her.
"Was your day off for moving?"
"Or for a date with a man?"
