Chapter 22

Anna Ross took a deep breath.

She forced herself to calm down.

She met Adrian Sinclair's gaze.

She spoke each word with perfect clarity.

"Adrian Sinclair."

"Three years ago, I was the one who left you."

"It was my fault."

"But I don't regret it."

"Even if you are rich and powerful now."

"I still won't like you."

The air instantly froze.

Time seemed to stop flowing.

Adrian Sinclair turned his head sharply to look at her.

The aura around him turned frigid and dark.

Terrifying fury churned in the depths of his eyes.

He suddenly raised his hand.

His fingers wrapped around her slender neck.

His dark pupils were like deep, icy pools.

Chillingly suffocating.

His voice trembled uncontrollably.

"Well said."

"You are absolutely incredible."

Anna coughed violently.

Looking into his bloodshot eyes, her instinct to struggle suddenly faded.

She slowly closed her eyes.

If he truly wanted to strangle her, perhaps it would be a release for both of them.

After a long time, the pressure on her neck suddenly released.

Anna gasped for fresh air.

For that one moment, she truly thought she would die by his hand.

Adrian had regained his composure.

Only his expression remained cold and terrifying.

His voice was as clear and cold as ice.

"Stop the car."

The driver immediately hit the brakes.

The tires screeched against the pavement.

The car came to a steady stop by the roadside.

Anna gathered her wits slightly.

A trace of relief flashed in her eyes.

Was he getting out?

"Get out."

Adrian spoke coldly again.

Anna didn't react at first.

She stared at him blankly.

The driver whispered a reminder.

"Miss."

"He's telling you to get out..."

He had been driving on edge this whole trip.

These two had been arguing since they got in the car.

Anna finally understood.

He was kicking her out of the car.

Adrian glanced at her sideways.

His eyes were icy, devoid of any warmth.

His tone was extremely impatient.

"Don't you understand?"

"I said get out."

Anna didn't dare say another word.

She pushed the car door open and stepped out.

The moment she found her footing, the door slammed shut.

The car sped away.

It quickly disappeared from her sight.

She looked around.

A slight frown creased her brow.

This was clearly the cab she had hailed.

Why was she the one getting kicked out?

Then she sighed in relief.

None of that mattered.

Being away from him was what counted.

But now it was the dead of night.

She needed to get home quickly.

Otherwise, her mother would worry and lose sleep.

She wondered if she could even get another cab.

Adrian leaned back in the car seat.

He covered his eyes with one hand.

His breathing was heavy and suppressed.

After a moment, he suddenly clenched his fists.

He slammed them hard against the seat.

His eyes were a frightening shade of red.

Anna Ross.

How could you be so cruel?

The driver was startled.

After a moment's hesitation, he spoke up to comfort him.

"Man."

"Fighting is normal."

"Don't take it too hard."

"Your girlfriend will definitely come back to you in a couple of days."

Even though he didn't understand kicking one's girlfriend out of the car, he could sense the other man's anger.

And his sorrow.

Men understand men best.
