Chapter 276
Anna Ross tilted her head slightly.
The streetlight outlined her puzzled profile.
"Julian, what do you mean by that?"
Julian Garnache tapped his fingers lightly on the steering wheel.
"Nothing," he smiled faintly.
He ended the topic there.
Anna turned back around.
The night breeze brushed through her hair.
She didn't press further about that person.
Her phone vibrated inside her bag.
The screen lit up with a message from Mia Lawrence.
It also showed her chat history with Julian.
A smile touched Anna's lips.
She could see right through her best friend's poorly concealed feelings.
Her gaze shifted to the man in the driver's seat.
She hesitated to speak.
His true feelings were still unclear.
If he still had lingering attachments to Chloe Valentine,
where would that leave Mia?
Julian noticed her staring.
He glanced over warmly.
"What's wrong? Just say whatever's on your mind."
"Since when are you shy around me?"
Anna took a deep breath.
She asked softly, "What do you think of my best friend?"
She had considered being more direct.
But ultimately chose a gentler approach.
Matters of the heart couldn't be rushed.
"She's great," Julian kept his eyes on the road.
"Pretty and cheerful."
His tone was as casual as if he were discussing the weather.
Anna studied his profile.
"Then have you noticed,"
"that she acts differently around you?"
His phone screen suddenly lit up.
Mia's name flashed briefly.
Anna saw it clearly.
Julian picked up his phone while waiting at a red light.
The corner of his mouth lifted as he replied.
His fingertips tapped lightly on the screen.
Anna looked out at the traffic.
"You still haven't answered my question."
Julian put his phone back in his pocket.
His fingers unconsciously rubbed the steering wheel.
"That... I'm not really sure either."
"Green light!" He straightened up.
His focus returned to the road ahead.
A slight smile curved Anna's lips.
At least based on his reaction,
he probably had some feelings for Mia.
The car stopped at the entrance to her apartment complex.
Anna unbuckled her seatbelt.
"Julian, would you like to come up for a bit?"
"No," Julian shook his head.
"I have things to take care of at the bar."
He handed her the medicine.
"Remember to apply this. Contact me anytime if you need anything."
Anna nodded and said goodbye.
She watched the car drive away.
She looked down at the medicine bag in her hand.
Turning around, she almost bumped into someone behind her.
Before she could apologize,
she recognized the face.
"Sophia, when did you get here?"
Sophia Roscente quickly grabbed her arm.
"Just arrived a moment ago."
"What happened to your face?"
Anna raised her hand to touch her cheek.
"Just an allergy," she said lightly.
Thankfully, Lucas's jacket helped conceal it.
Sophia nodded.
But her gaze drifted into the distance.
"Sis,"
"who was that who just dropped you off?"
