Chapter 343

Anna Ross followed Howard Lowell into the office.

Howard sighed heavily.

He picked up the teacup from his desk and gulped down several mouthfuls.

He remained silent the entire time.

Anna grew restless waiting.

โ€œWhat did you want to see me about?โ€ she finally asked.

โ€œYou have the nerve to ask?โ€ Howard slammed the cup onto the desk.

He turned and glared at her, his finger nearly jabbing her face.

His furious expression startled her.

She couldn't understand what she had done to anger him.

Howard continued to rage.

โ€œMy people say Adrian Sinclair has been getting very close to Miss Valentine recently.โ€

โ€œWhat exactly have you accomplished with the task I gave you?โ€

He had thought his plan was progressing smoothly.

This sudden development caught him completely off guard.

Anna lowered her gaze.

So it was about this.

โ€œThis has nothing to do with me,โ€ she said coldly, as if it were someone else's problem.

Howard trembled with anger.

He pointed at her and roared, โ€œWhat kind of attitude is that?โ€

โ€œHave you forgotten your mother is still in my hands?โ€

โ€œDo you not care about her anymore?โ€

โ€œYou!โ€ Anna was speechless with fury, but powerless to refute him.

โ€œI'm not his Executive Assistant anymore.โ€

โ€œThere's nothing I can do even if I wanted to.โ€

She didn't notice the faint trace of resentment in her own voice.

Howard flew into a rage.

He slammed his hand on the desk.

โ€œUseless!โ€

โ€œYou can't even handle such a simple thing.โ€

โ€œWhat a waste of that pretty face!โ€

โ€œUncle, what did you say?โ€

Adrian Sinclair pushed the door open and walked in.

Howard's face instantly paled.

He realized he had forgotten to close the door earlier.

โ€œThis...โ€ Had everything he just said been overheard?

Damn it.

If all those words were heard, this kid would definitely be on guard against him from now on.

Seeing Adrian enter, Anna immediately fell silent.

She retreated to a corner, standing with her head bowed.

Adrian's peripheral vision caught her slender figure.

A strange emotion stirred in his heart.

He turned to Howard, his tone neutral.

โ€œI came to ask if you've adjusted to the work here, Uncle.โ€

โ€œAre you satisfied with it?โ€

Howard's heart tightened.

He hesitated before answering.

โ€œIt's very good.โ€

โ€œI quite enjoy my current work.โ€

โ€œYou've been very thoughtful, Adrian.โ€

The corner of Adrian's mouth lifted slightly.

He clasped his hands behind his back and walked to the window.

Sunlight streamed through the glass, illuminating Anna's calm profile.

He found himself momentarily captivated.

Cold sweat broke out on Howard's forehead.

Adrian just stood there, not speaking or moving.

Had he discovered something?

Anna couldn't stand it any longer.

She found an excuse to leave.

โ€œI'll let you two talk.โ€

โ€œI should get back to work.โ€

She glanced at the figure by the window and quietly exited the office.

Back at her desk, she stared blankly at a pile ofๆžฏ็‡ฅ data.

Lately, her mind wandered easily.

She felt an emptiness in her heart.

The office door opened.

Adrian walked out.

His peripheral vision caught that familiar figure.

His steps faltered slightly.
