Chapter 441
Anna Ross leaned back.
She tried to create distance between them.
"What do you want!?"
Adrian Sinclair's lips curved slightly.
His gaze fell on her profile, outlined by sunlight.
"Be my Executive Assistant. I've made myself clear."
He lounged lazily against the desk.
He clearly had no intention of letting her go easily.
Anna pushed him.
The man instead stepped half a pace closer.
His warm breath brushed past her ear.
Shadows moved beyond the office glass walls.
Her heart raced suddenly.
She feared someone might witness this intimate scene.
"Fine, I agree," she finally conceded, defeated.
Her voice was laced with resignation.
Adrian released his grip.
As he turned, a flicker of amusement shone in his eyes.
"You should have agreed sooner."
He deliberately lowered his voice.
"Did you refuse just now because you wanted this?"
Anna was silent for a moment.
She forced out four words.
"You're insane."
Adrian, unusually, wasn't angry.
Instead, he seemed in a good mood as he offered her a water glass.
She pushed it away.
"You'll remain in the HR Department," he added to her retreating back.
"But your duties as my Executive Assistant continue."
Anna didn't break stride.
She pulled the door open and left directly.
In the hallway, she pressed a hand to her wildly beating heart.
She wondered if she was ill.
Otherwise, why did she lose control every time she saw him?
Howard Lowell's figure suddenly appeared around a corner.
Anna immediately ducked into the emergency stairwell.
She would rather climb several flights of stairs.
She wanted no interaction with him whatsoever.
She suddenly remembered that phone call.
She should have warned Adrian to be careful.
But the timing was wrong now.
She would have to find another opportunity.
Before leaving work, Mia Lawrence called.
Her voice was chirpy, asking to go shopping.
Anna was somewhat surprised.
She had just returned from a long trip and wasn't even tired.
But she agreed to meet on time anyway.
She waited for her friend to clock out downstairs.
"Anna, wait two more minutes!" Mia called from the end of the line.
She made a heart gesture.
Anna smiled and nodded.
She walked to the lounge area and checked her phone.
A red dot indicated unread messages in her social feed.
Julian Garnache had posted a rare update.
A photo showed a table full of home-cooked dishes.
The caption read, "Long-awaited warmth."
She was smiling slightly when someone tapped her shoulder lightly.
Mia leaned in to look at the screen.
"What's got you so happy?"
