Chapter 256
Chloe Valentine signaled the waiter.
She ordered her favorite breakfast items.
She deliberately moved closer to Adrian Sinclair.
"Adrian, would you like to order something else?" she asked in a soft, sweet voice. "I can order for you."
Anna Ross kept her head down, quietly eating her breakfast.
She pretended not to hear anything.
"No, this is enough," Adrian replied flatly.
He shifted slightly away, maintaining his distance from her.
Disappointment flashed in Chloe's eyes.
When she turned to look at Anna, her gaze was filled with hatred.
She had clearly seen him smiling earlier.
Now he was so cold toward her.
It was all because of this woman!
She took a sip of water to steady her emotions.
"Anna, what kept you busy last night?" she asked, feigning concern.
Worried about displeasing the man beside her, she added, "Don't misunderstand. It's just concern between colleagues."
Anna inwardly scoffed.
The intention behind the question was too obvious.
She just wanted to find out if Anna had been with Adrian last night.
Calling it colleague concern was utterly unnecessary.
"I was with the most important person last night," she said calmly, eating her porridge. "Slept very well."
The most important person?
When had they become so intimate?
Chloe's mind went into chaos.
She wanted to tear the woman before her to pieces.
Throw her into the ocean to feed the fish.
She looked at Adrian.
Hoping he would deny it.
If he said it wasn't true, she would believe it was all Anna's lies.
But the man's silence confirmed they had been together last night.
It felt like plunging into an icy abyss.
It's over.
Her man was really being taken away.
She had to do something.
Anna staying here was a threat!
Breakfast ended.
Chloe proactively stood next to Adrian.
Anna consciously kept her distance.
Adrian's gaze swept over her.
He thought about how she had deliberately let Chloe misunderstand earlier.
He felt an inexplicable sense of pleasure.
So she cared about him too, didn't she?
Entering the company, Chloe slowed her pace.
She walked side by side with Anna.
"Anna Ross," she said in a low voice. "There's something I must make clear to you."
Anna acted as if she didn't hear.
She continued walking forward.
She knew it would inevitably be about Adrian.
"Adrian will be mine eventually," Chloe said. "He might be fascinated by you now, but he will ultimately marry me. For you, he's just playing around."
The man ahead was on a phone call.
Completely unaware of the turmoil behind him.
Seeing her ignored, Chloe grew even angrier.
"Listen," she said coldly. "I'm saying all this so you recognize your place. Don't overestimate yourself."
Anna let out a light laugh.
She retorted, "Miss Valentine, you know better than I do who's really being played."
Chloe's face changed dramatically.
She suppressed her anger and warned, "So what? I will still become his wife. And you are nothing. You'd better stay away from him on your own accord."
