Chapter 115
Anna Ross turned her face away.
The man beside her was still asleep.
Morning light filtered through the curtains, falling on his sharply defined features.
It cast a soft, hazy glow.
Memories of last night crashed into her mind.
Her fingertips trembled slightly.
Clothes were scattered across the floor.
She bent down to pick them up.
She dressed herself, piece by piece.
She tried to move.
A sharp pain instantly shot through her entire body.
It felt like she had been run over.
Every bone screamed in protest.
Anna gripped the edge of the bed.
She gritted her teeth and steadied herself.
She shuffled slowly toward the bathroom.
In her mind, she had already cursed Adrian Sinclair a thousand times.
The mirror reflected a patchwork of marks.
They trailed from her collarbone down to her waist.
Her cheeks burned.
She turned on the faucet.
Cold water washed over her, trying to clear her chaotic thoughts.
Adrian Sinclair opened his eyes.
He lay still, gazing at the ceiling.
His eyes were deep and thoughtful.
A buzz broke the silence.
He got up and retrieved his suit jacket.
He pulled out his phone and answered.
His brow furrowed instantly.
"Understood."
"I'll be right there."
He ended the call.
He dressed quickly and efficiently.
He left in haste.
Anna stepped out of the bathroom.
The bedroom was empty.
She breathed a sigh of relief.
Yet, an inexplicable sense of loss lingered.
"Just focus on work for now," she whispered to herself.
The office was as busy as ever.
The elevator ascended slowly.
Her heart grew tighter with each floor.
Ding.
The doors opened.
Noah Watson walked toward her.
"Good morning, Executive Assistant Ross."
Anna forced a smile.
"Morning."
Her eyes unconsciously drifted toward the CEO's office.
Noah noticed her glance.
"Looking for Mr. Sinclair?"
"He's out today."
"He won't be coming to the office."
Anna shook her head.
"It's nothing."
She hurried back to her workstation.
All day.
That door remained firmly shut.
When it was time to leave, she packed her things and left.
She could just make it to the bar on time.
The owner greeted her warmly.
"Anna, you're here!"
"We have a full house tonight."
"Everyone's waiting for you to take the stage."
