Chapter 388

She furrowed her brows.

The stinging pain in her neck made her uncomfortable.

Adrian Sinclair's expression shifted slightly.

Seeing her complexion improve, he remained silent.

"Lucas, you should go back now. I'm fine here." Anna Ross offered a faint smile.

Lucas Evans nodded gently. "Alright. I had something to discuss with you, but since someone else is here, we can talk another time."

He deliberately glanced toward the man beside him.

As expected, Adrian's brow instantly furrowed tightly.

A cold gaze shot directly toward them.

Anna's heart clenched.

She feared they might come to blows like before.

Yet Lucas rose calmly.

The moment he turned, frost gathered in his eyes.

No matter how hard he tried, he could never measure up to Adrian Sinclair.

The door opened and closed.

It was like the gathering and parting of people.

Only the two of them remained in the hospital room.

Adrian sat back down by the bed.

The corner of his mouth lifted slightly. "Were you scared?"

Anna choked, coughing several times.

She set down the meal box and wiped her mouth. "What would I be scared of?"

"Scared I would harm him." Adrian's voice turned cold abruptly.

He walked to the window and looked down at the empty lawn below.

Anna sighed helplessly. "I don't have feelings for anyone. Stop projecting your assumptions onto me."

Why did he stubbornly believe her heart belonged to Lucas?

Adrian stood silently.

His back was shrouded in shadow, difficult to read.

She watched him.

Suddenly, she remembered that night.

The image of him embracing Chloe Valentine on the terrace flashed in her mind.

Lost in thought, he suddenly turned and approached.

"There's something I need to discuss with you."

His fingertips tapped lightly on the bed railing.

It produced a rhythmic, soft sound.

Anna lowered her gaze. "What is there to discuss between us?"

Adrian didn't get angry.

He only asked suddenly, "Were you angry about transferring you to the HR Department?"

She nearly laughed. "I was thrilled. A quieter place suits me perfectly."

Though she initially felt some resentment, it wasn't bad to keep an eye on Howard Lowell this way.

A inexplicable anger surged within Adrian.

She always easily stirred his emotions like this.

Was leaving his side so joyful?

He finally replied calmly, "Hmm. As long as you're happy."

Anna looked up at him.

Since their reunion, he had been unpredictable.

Often angry for no reason.
