Chapter 293

Chloe Valentine's fingers trembled slightly.

Her voice softened further. "Adrian, I'm really fine now."

She reached out to touch his sleeve.

Adrian Sinclair sidestepped her touch.

The air grew still.

Cold mockery flickered in his eyes. "I always believed you were kind."

Chloe's heart plummeted.

It felt like something tightly held had suddenly slipped away.

"I... I am, of course." She forced a smile, her voice unsteady.

Had he discovered something?

No, impossible.

Adrian stepped closer, his gaze sharp as a blade.

Chloe had never seen him like this. She retreated in fear.

Her back pressed against the cold wall.

The elevator doors opened.

Anna Ross stepped out holding files.

She looked up and saw Adrian pinning Chloe against the wall.

Her heart skipped a beat.

She turned and hurried down the opposite hallway.

Against the wall, Chloe looked up at his stern face.

Fear slowly turned into shyness.

She hooked his tie, her fingers twisting around the silk.

Her red lips curved slightly. "Adrian, I'll become whatever you like."

"Just look at me, okay?"

Adrian frowned and stepped back.

His tie slipped from her fingers.

He watched her in silence, his eyes distant.

Chloe's nose tingled with unshed tears.

She maintained her smile. "I understand... I'll always be kind."

A kindness only you will see.

"There's no need to come up here unless necessary." He turned and left without looking back.

Chloe's smile shattered.

She grabbed her handbag and slammed it onto the floor.

Her chest heaved violently.

Anna Ross, you deserve to die!

The wind was strong on the rooftop.

Anna rubbed her chilled nose.

Distant buildings blurred into gray-blue shadows.

The scene from earlier replayed in her mind.

She gave a wry smile.

Just because he doesn't want to marry now doesn't mean never.

Love can grow over time. It's not impossible.

"Executive Assistant Ross?"

Noah Watson approached holding a can of soda.

He smiled and shook it gently. "Rare to find someone else who likes this spot."

He leaned against the railing and handed her an iced coffee.

They stood side by side, gazing at the city skyline.

"I found it by chance," Anna said softly. "The view is good here. It's quiet."

Noah glanced at her. "Feeling down?"

Before she could answer, he smiled again. "I come here to clear my head when I'm tired. The wind blows all worries away."

Anna looked down, tracing the cold surface of the can.

"Yes," she whispered. "Some words... are only for the wind to hear."
