Chapter 139

Anna Ross glanced at her phone.

Her pupils contracted sharply.

She would be late if she didn't leave immediately.

Adrian Sinclair's cold face instantly surfaced in her mind.

The open car door felt like a trap.

She tightened her grip on her backpack strap.

Finally, she bent down and slid into the passenger seat.

A flicker of amusement crossed Lucas Evans' eyes.

He considerately closed the door for her.

As the engine started, he watched her tense profile in the rearview mirror.

An awkward silence filled the car.

Anna looked down, scrolling through her phone.

She pretended to handle work messages.

But her fingertips trembled slightly.

Lucas turned the steering wheel.

His gentle voice broke the silence.

"My company is nearby."

"It's on my way. Don't worry about it."

Anna forced a weak smile.

Her gaze swept over the passing scenery outside.

This route was completely opposite.

But she didn't point it out.

When the office building came into view, she immediately grabbed her seatbelt.

"Just stop here."

"I'll walk the rest of the way."

Lucas instead pressed the accelerator.

"The sun is too strong along this stretch."

"It's better if I take you to the entrance."

Anna bit her lower lip.

She silently prayed not to run into that person.

The moment the car stopped, she pushed the door open and jumped out.

While hastily thanking him, her peripheral vision caught a familiar figure.

Adrian Sinclair was emerging from the revolving door.

His tailored suit couldn't conceal his menacing aura.

He narrowed his eyes, assessing them.

His leather shoes clicked against the marble floor as he approached.

Anna froze in place.

She watched as his shadow fell over her.

Lucas suddenly stepped in front of her.

His voice carried a chill.

"What do you think you're doing?"

Adrian curled his lip contemptuously.

"I should be asking you that."

"Who gave you permission to touch what's mine?"

Anna pressed her throbbing temples.

She quickly stepped between the two men.

"Lucas, you should go."

"Thank you for today, really."

She grabbed Adrian's sleeve and dragged him toward the lobby.

Noah Watson followed silently, holding files.

The elevator doors closed.

She immediately released his sleeve.

"I'm just your Executive Assistant."

"My personal life is none of your business."

The metal walls reflected her red-rimmed eyes.

"This level of control is suffocating."
