Chapter 131
Anna Ross finally remembered Sophia Roscente's connection to Adrian Sinclair.
She had been so focused on worrying about Sophia's whereabouts.
She had completely forgotten about that.
"She came to New York. She's been staying with me."
"But she didn't come home last night. She isn't answering her phone."
"I was busy at work today and didn't have time to look for her."
Anna looked at him with deep concern.
"I haven't been able to reach her since I got off work."
Adrian's expression darkened instantly.
He grabbed her wrist and pulled her outside.
Anna hurried to keep up with his pace.
"Do you know any places she might go in New York?"
Adrian opened the car door and slid into the driver's seat.
She quickly got into the passenger seat.
His lips were pressed into a thin line, his expression stern.
Anna took out her phone and dialed Sophia's number again.
The receiver only emitted a busy signal.
Her small face crumpled with worry.
She glanced over and saw Adrian making a call.
His voice was icy. "Take people and search. You must find her."
Anna felt a slight sense of relief.
She remembered he had his own connections in New York.
More people searching would make it easier.
She just hoped Sophia was safe.
She tried calling one more time.
Still no answer.
Guilt washed over her.
She should have insisted Sophia come home last night.
"How did you get so close to her?" Adrian suddenly asked.
Anna hesitated for a moment.
"We ran into each other the last time she was in New York."
"We had a meal together. You weren't there then."
"She said she had nowhere to stay, so I took her in."
Adrian didn't ask any more questions.
The car stopped in front of a bar.
Anna followed him out of the car.
Having someone familiar with the area was better than her searching blindly.
The music inside the bar was deafening.
People were dancing wildly in the crowd.
They split up to search.
They scoured the entire bar but found nothing.
Adrian's expression grew increasingly grim.
They rushed to the next location.
They searched every place Sophia might possibly go.
Still, there was no sign of her.
Anna was filled with a sense of guilt.
Adrian spoke suddenly. "You should go home and check."
"Maybe she's already back."
Anna was taken aback.
That was actually a good idea.
If all else failed, they could only call the police.
She nodded and took a taxi home.
Adrian continued searching outside.
Anna rushed to her apartment building.
She ran upstairs.
She found the door slightly ajar.
She pushed it open.
A phone was ringing on the sofa.
The sound of running water came from the bathroom.
Had she really come back?
