Chapter 277

They walked quietly along the road.

Anna Ross glanced sideways at her companion's wary expression and responded calmly, "He's a friend. He just gave me a ride home since it was on his way."

A friend?

Sophia Roscente turned her head warily to look back. She was firmly on her cousin's side. She couldn't let another man get ahead.

Since her cousin wasn't here, she would have to be the protector.

Anna took out her keys to unlock the door. She looked puzzled at the silly grin on the other girl's face. "Sophia, what's wrong with you?"

She had been so serious just a moment ago. Now she was grinning foolishly. Her mood changed too quickly.

Sophia snapped out of her thoughts and stopped smiling. She followed Anna inside to change her shoes. "Sis, does my cousin know that guy?"

Anna's hand paused while placing the keys. She smiled bitterly. She set the keys on the console table and bent to remove her shoes. "He knows."

It was more than just knowing. He was openly hostile toward him.

"What was his reaction? His attitude? Wasn't he even a little bit nervous?" Sophia was so anxious she nearly jumped.

If her cousin lost such a wonderful girlfriend, she would be furious.

Anna picked up a water glass from the coffee table and took a drink. She was very thirsty. Only after her throat felt soothed did she set the glass down. She answered unhurriedly, "What reaction could he have? He just takes his resentment toward me out on other people."

She gazed out the window at the darkening sky. Her heart felt hollow.

Sophia didn't agree. She pulled Anna toward the sofa. "My cousin doesn't hate you. He's jealous. He acts like that because he likes you."

"So you shouldn't pay attention to other men from now on. Being with my cousin is what's best." She giggled. Her hands had just touched Anna's shoulders when she heard a pained hiss. She quickly let go.

Anna shifted away. She tried to hide the injuries on her body.

Sophia saw her pale face. She thought her words had made Anna angry. She hurried to explain, "Sis, I was just joking. Please don't be mad at me, okay?"

She looked at her own hands,ไธ็Ÿฅๆ‰€ๆŽช. Tears nearly fell.

Cecilia Roscente always said she was careless and didn't know her own strength. She used to disagree. Now she had to admit it was true. If her favorite sister started hating her because of this, her heart would truly break.

Anna watched her rapidly changing expressions. She knew the girl was overthinking again. She gently patted her shoulder. "I'm not angry. It's just that there's no future for me and your cousin. Please don't say things like that anymore."

"Sis..." Sophia pouted pitifully.

Anna smiled and stood up. "I'm going to take a shower."

She entered the bathroom and took off her jacket to check her injuries. The strangulation marks on her neck had faded somewhat. But the scratches on her shoulders were still oozing a little blood. They had begun to scab.

She took off the torn dress and turned on the shower. Warm water streamed down. Her tense emotions finally relaxed a little.

She looked at the places that man had touched. A wave of nausea hit her. She scrubbed fiercely, as if she wanted to scrape off a layer of skin.
