Seeing them retreat, the men laughed more boldly.

"Don't shy away. We'll make sure you get home safe when you're drunk."

One man took the opportunity to reach out and stroke Anna's cheek.

Mia's eyes turned icy.

In a flash, she grabbed a bottle and smashed it over his head.

"Don't you dare touch her."

She spat the words with contempt, grabbing Anna's hand and bolting for the exit.

The struck man clutched his bleeding forehead, roaring with rage.

"After them! Don't let them get away!"

He cursed violently as his companions gave chase.

Anna glanced back as they ran, her heart sinking at the sight of the pursuing crowd.

Escape seemed unlikely tonight.

Mia desperately waved at passing cars, but none stopped.

Noticing a dark alley, Anna pulled her friend into its shadows.

Their pursuers arrived, furious at losing sight of them.

One kicked a nearby tree in frustration.

Anna's heart hammered against her ribs as she peered out from the alley.

"Search the area! They can't have gone far!"

The bleeding man caught up, scanning the surroundings with a vicious glare.

"Check every alley. I want them found!"

His lackeys fanned out to search.

A chill ran down Anna's spine.

She picked up a loose stone, ready to fight.

Footsteps drew closer, each one syncing with her frantic heartbeat.

Mia shielded Anna, her gaze fixed on the alley's entrance.

A figure suddenly appeared before them.

After a stunned moment, he laughed triumphantly.

"Over here! I found them!"

Anna looked behind them. There was no escape.

"Run! Why aren't you running?" The men advanced to grab them. Anna tightened her grip on the stone.

"What's going on here?" A cold, sharp voice cut through the tension.

Anna looked up. Her heart stopped.

Lucas Evans held up his phone, waving it at the thugs.

"I've already called the police. Leave now unless you want a trip to the station."

The men paled. Their shady records made them fear the law.

"You'll pay for this!"

They spat the threat before retreating, defeated.
