Grandpa's slightly impatient voice came through the phone.
Adrian Sinclair's face showed no expression.
Only a faint trace of disgust flickered in his deep eyes.
He stood up and walked to the window.
He lit a cigarette.
"Grandpa, I'm on a business trip. I'll return tomorrow."
White smoke curled before his eyes.
He narrowed his eyes slightly.
Frederick Lowell breathed a sigh of relief.
"That child Chloe truly likes you."
"Don't disappoint her."
"I won't allow it."
True feelings?
Adrian let out a cold scoff.
If she truly liked him,
she wouldn't have drugged him.
She wouldn't have repeatedly hurt that person.
He turned and leaned against the window.
"Understood, Grandpa."
"It's late. You should rest early."
Grandpa sighed.
A few coughs followed.
Henry's concerned questions were faintly audible.
Grandpa waved his hand.
He continued into the phone.
"Adrian, come to the house when you return."
"Bring Chloe along for a family dinner."
Adrian acknowledged.
He ended the call.
The phone rang again.
It was Chloe Valentine calling.
He glanced at it.
He declined the call directly.
Chloe listened to the busy tone.
Her face contorted.
She bit her thumbnail hard.
Her entire body trembled.

She screamed internally.
She barely stopped herself from shouting aloud.
He hadn't answered his phone all day.
It was like he had vanished from the earth.
She kept calling relentlessly.
No one ever picked up.

She picked up the phone and called Anna Ross.

She turned and walked into the bathroom.
