Chapter 393

Noah Watson looked at the man strategizing before him.

A chill ran down his spine.

If he ever became this man's enemy, he stood no chance.

Adrian Sinclair returned to work despite his injury.

He waved his hand dismissively.

"Get back to work. Keep monitoring the situation."

Noah acknowledged the order and left the office.

He headed toward the printer.

As he departed, Chloe Valentine appeared at the end of the hallway.

She paused outside the door and pulled out a compact mirror.

Her eyes were slightly swollen in the reflection.

She pressed her lips together in frustration.

She regretted crying so intensely earlier.

After touching up her makeup, she gently pushed the office door open.

Adrian was about to check his wound but withdrew his hand at the sound.

His gaze turned cold when he saw who it was.

Chloe tucked a stray strand of hair behind her ear.

She approached him slowly.

"Adrian, are you busy right now?" she asked softly.

"What is it?" He glanced up briefly before returning to his documents.

An awkward tension had lingered between them since the incident.

He had no desire to look at her any longer than necessary.

Chloe felt nervous but remembered her mother's advice.

To marry this man, she needed to stabilize their relationship first.

"I came to apologize." Her eyes welled up as she bit her lip. "I was too impulsive last time. I acted foolishly."

"Can you forgive me?"

Adrian let out a derisive snort and leaned back in his chair.

He stared at the ceiling and exhaled deeply.

What difference did forgiveness make?

Nothing had happened anyway.

Even without forgiveness, what could change?

Grandpa's stance remained firm.

"Didn't Grandpa say it was his idea?" Adrian stood and walked to the bookshelf.

He pulled out a file.

Chloe watched his shadow, both captivated and afraid.

This man was too dazzling.

His talent and appearance were utterly captivating.

Yet he always treated others with ice-cold detachment.

If he truly decided to pursue the matter, she would be powerless.

"Adrian, I know I was wrong." She looked at him hopefully. "Let me treat you to dinner to make up for it?"

Adrian checked through documents in silence.

Chloe quickly took out her phone.

She showed him a pre-made dining guide.

"MILIT Restaurant launched a new menu. It has excellent reviews." She forced a smile. "Shall we try it?"

Adrian finally looked up, his expression indifferent.

"It depends. I'll go if I'm free."

He sat back down and began annotating files.

Chloe gazed at the man so close yet so distant.

He was within reach, yet an invisible barrier stood between them.
