Chapter 162

She tried to sound calm, but her voice betrayed her unease.

Vivian Lowell noticed nothing amiss over the phone. She was simply delighted by the smooth progress. It seemed Adrian Sinclair did treat her daughter with special regard. This realization put Vivian's mind at ease.

"That's wonderful, Anna. Thank you for your hard work." Her mother's voice was filled with relief.

Anna Ross gripped her phone tightly. As long as her mother remained safe, any effort was worth it. As for the rejection, she believed she could try again.

After ending the call, she stared blankly at her phone screen. Her fingers hovered over the message box. She typed and deleted several drafts, but ultimately sent nothing.

She recalled his firm refusal yesterday. Her courage instantly evaporated. Perhaps she shouldn't invite further humiliation.

Finally, she deleted all the text and tossed her phone aside. Her eyelids grew heavy. She fell into a deep sleep without even pulling up the covers.

Sophia Roscente entered the room and found her curled up asleep by the bed. The phone screen was still lit, displaying the chat window with Adrian Sinclair.

"Still claiming you don't care..." Sophia chuckled softly and shook her head. She turned off the phone and carefully tucked Anna in.

The bedroom lights went out, leaving only moonlight streaming through the window.

The next morning, Anna was jolted awake by an urgent ringtone. Her mother's cheerful voice came through the receiver. "Anna, the branch company crisis is resolved! It's all thanks to you!"

Anna sat up instantly, all sleepiness gone. "Mom, say that again?"

"Everything is settled. It's truly wonderful." Vivian repeated, her tone light and happy.

Anna held the phone in a daze. She had just been rejected last night. Why was there a sudden turn of events? Who else could influence this matter besides him?

But why did he change his mind?

"I need to get to work. I'll contact you later." She hurriedly ended the call and threw off the covers. Morning light streamed through the curtains, illuminating the entire room.
