Chapter 28

Anna Ross closed her eyes.

Her classmates' stares pierced her like needles.

Lucas Evans stood up abruptly.

He glared at Adrian Sinclair. "Who gave you the right to stop Anna from sitting?"

His voice was thick with suppressed anger.

Adrian gave him a dismissive glance.

"What gives you the right to question me?" His tone was icy cold. "It's not worth offending me over a woman."

Lucas clenched his fists.

Anger flashed across his usually gentle face for the first time.

Their eyes locked.

Sparks seemed to fly between them.

The classmates quickly tried to defuse the tension.

"It's a class reunion today. Let's not talk about work." "Let Anna sit down." Everyone chimed in agreement.

Only then did Adrian look away.

He spoke indifferently. "Sit." It sounded like a condescending allowance.

Anna sat down with her head lowered.

The reunion officially began.

The class president raised a glass for a toast.

The atmosphere became lively again.

Lucas placed a piece of ribs onto her plate.

"Eat something." His voice was gentle. "You must be hungry."

Anna thanked him softly.

She picked up her fork and knife.

Her stomach was growling with hunger.

Adrian suddenly tapped the table.

"Get me some food." He commanded. "The wine is also empty. Pour more."

Anna paused her movement.

She reached for the wine bottle.

Lucas stopped her.

He looked at Adrian. "Don't you have hands?" His tone was sarcastic. "Do you need others to serve you?"

Anna shook her head anxiously.

She didn't want Lucas to offend him.

But Lucas remained unmoved.

Adrian's gaze turned cold.

He stood up abruptly and pulled Anna towards him.

She fell into his arms unexpectedly.

The classmates gasped in surprise.

Anna hurriedly tried to sit up straight.

But Adrian held her tightly, refusing to let go.

Lucas grabbed her other hand.

Tension crackled between the two men.

Their stares felt like they were tearing her apart.

"I need to use the restroom." She broke free from both of them.

She fled the private room as if escaping.

Adrian watched her retreating figure.

His eyes were deep and unreadable.

A classmate joked, "If I didn't know better, I'd think you two were a couple." Everyone cautiously observed Adrian's reaction.

He merely curved his lips slightly.

Adrian looked at Lucas provocatively.

His gaze gradually sharpened.

He was certain Lucas had ulterior motives towards Anna.
