Chapter 387
Howard Lowell's eyes shifted slightly.
He offered an ingratiating smile. "Of course. I wouldn't want to let you down after all your effort, Adrian." He was referring to the job transfer.
Adrian Sinclair leaned back lazily against the hospital bed.
His tone was detached. "Actually, it was Grandpa's idea. Thank him if you want. You should visit him more often."
Howard was stunned.
The old man had been thoroughly disappointed in him. Why would he suddenly entrust him with such an important position? It was highly unusual.
He needed to sound out the old man's intentions as soon as possible.
Had his years of effort finally been recognized? Could corporate power finally be within his grasp? Howard grew more excited the longer he thought about it.
Anna Ross was equally surprised.
She had assumed it was Adrian's doing. She never expected it to be the old man's directive.
Adrian watched his expression closely.
He had merely mentioned it offhand. His real curiosity was about what this uncle of his actually wanted.
And Anna. What secret was she hiding?
Anna ate her breakfast quietly.
She appeared focused, but she absorbed every word of their conversation.
A brief silence fell over the room.
All three were lost in their own thoughts.
Vivian Lowell seemed about to say something.
Howard grabbed her arm firmly.
He lowered his voice. "Let's give them some space. We should go."
He glanced at the irritating Lucas Evans nearby.
Remembering he still needed Anna's help, he suppressed his displeasure.
Howard turned to the hospital bed.
He forced a smile. "Anna, rest well. I'm taking your mother home now."
Seeing his eagerness to leave, Anna understood completely.
Even now, he still hoped to use her to get closer to Adrian.
Vivian called out from a distance. "Sweetheart, stay in bed and rest. I'll visit again when I have time."
Anna's heart ached with reluctance.
Last time she was hospitalized, she couldn't spend much time with her mother. Now they were parting hurriedly again.
But she knew Howard would never let her mother stay alone.
She offered a bright smile. "Don't worry, Mom. I'll visit you as soon as I'm better."
Vivian seemed slightly reassured.
Howard turned to Adrian.
His smile was obsequious. "Adrian, please take good care of Anna."
The corner of Adrian's mouth lifted slightly.
He gave a faint nod.
As they left, Vivian looked back repeatedly.
She was ultimately dragged away by Howard.
For the sake of their future, she had to endure the pain of leaving her daughter behind.
The door closed.
Adrian looked down at the figure by the bed.
He suddenly chuckled. "Executive Assistant Ross, don't you find this room a bit stuffy?"
Anna had intended to ignore him.
Hearing this, she glanced at him. The room was clearly cool. This man really was abnormal.
She replied offhandedly, "If you're hot, open a window yourself."
