Chapter 406
"What were you going to say?"
"Why do you keep looking at me?"
He deliberately raised his voice.
The sound pierced Lucas Evans' ears.
His spirit shuddered.
Something inside him crumbled completely.
So she was with him.
That's why she didn't answer the phone.
Where did they go?
Anna Ross fell silent for a moment.
Her voice was very soft. "Lucas, I'm on a business trip."
"I might not be back for a while."
"Please focus on your own matters for now."
Lucas stood frozen at the company entrance.
Like a statue.
Passersby glanced at him curiously.
The wind blew past.
Only then did he snap out of it.
His voice strained. "I understand."
"Take care of yourself."
"Call me anytime if you need anything."
"Ifโ"
"Executive Assistant Ross."
"I'll have them order food."
"Is there anything you'd like to eat?"
Adrian Sinclair deliberately interrupted.
His presence was undeniable.
Anna shot him a glare.
She responded hurriedly. "I'm busy right now."
"I have to go."
The call ended.
Lucas listened to the dial tone.
His tense expression finally shattered.
They were actually together.
Even if it was a business trip.
He still found it hard to accept.
Lucas pressed his fingers to his forehead with a bitter smile.
He put away his phone and turned to leave.
Chloe Valentine had just exited the company.
She saw Lucas's desolate shadow.
Hatred surged in her heart.
What right did Anna have?
To attract so much affection?
But then she reconsidered.
Lucas might be useful.
She put on a sweet smile.
She quickened her pace to catch up. "Mr. Evans."
Lucas turned around.
He watched her jog toward him.
Her smile was sugary sweet.
Completely different from usual.
Chloe came to a stop.
She looked up at him. "Did you come to the company for something, Mr. Evans?"
Lucas slid his hands into his pockets.
He glanced at the company entrance.
He raised an eyebrow. "I came to see someone."
"Do you need something, Miss Valentine?"
"We don't really know each other."
He had no fondness for this woman.
He wanted no further interaction.
Chloe let out a light laugh.
She folded her arms and paced slowly. "You came to see Executive Assistant Ross, didn't you?"
She looked him over.
Taking in his pained expression.
"What a pity."
"She's on a business trip with Adrian."
"She didn't tell you at all, did she."
Lucas's fingers tightened.
A tremor passed through his brow.
"She didn't tell me."
"But your fiancรฉ is on a business trip."
"Why didn't he take you?"
Chloe's smile froze.
She couldn't help rolling her eyes.
"Trying to drive a wedge?"
She scoffed.
"Don't think I don't know."
"You have feelings for Anna Ross."
"But you mean nothing to her."
"You can't even successfully pursue someone."
"How pathetic."
Lucas felt a sharp pain in his chest.
He pointed at her, speechless.
