Chapter 321
Anna Ross and Mia Lawrence returned to their apartment.
Julian Garnache made sure they were safe before rushing back to the bar.
"Mia, you clearly have feelings for Julian. Why won't you tell him?" Anna looked toward the door, her voice hesitant.
She had almost spoken up for her friend.
But that phone call had interrupted them.
Mia set down her luggage and shook her head gently. "If he has someone else in his heart, why should I embarrass myself?"
"This trip home made me realize something. I need to focus on living my life well from now on. Don't worry about me."
She handed over a paper box.
Anna took it and realized it was a specialty dessert from San Francisco.
Her friend still remembered her favorite pastry.
Anna reached out and hugged Mia tightly.
"Mia, I'll always be here for you."
Mia stiffened for a moment before returning the embrace.
She couldn't handle emotional scenes and quickly changed the subject. "Worry about yourself first. Adrian Sinclair or Lucas Evans? Who will you choose?"
Anna was instantly speechless.
She didn't want to choose either of them.
But the words stuck in her throat, unable to be spoken.
She sat silently on the edge of the bed.
"Anna, stop avoiding this. Just tell Adrian the truth about what happened back then. You clearly still care about himโ"
"Mia!"
Anna cut her off urgently.
"He has a fiancรฉe now. I just want to earn enough money to take my mother away."
She wouldn't stay in this city any longer.
Mia smiled bitterly. "We really are a pair of troubled sisters."
Her phone suddenly rang.
Anna saw the caller ID and realized she should have been at the office long ago.
"Oh no!" She grabbed her bag and rushed out the door. "Mia, I have to go! I'll explain later!"
Before Mia could react, the door slammed shut.
Anna answered the phone.
Noah Watson's anxious voice came through. "Where are you? Get back here now!"
"I'm on my way!" She urged the driver incoherently. "Sir, can you go any faster?"
The driver glanced helplessly into the rearview mirror. "It's completely gridlocked up ahead. We'll have to wait."
Anna looked up.
The line of cars stretched endlessly ahead.
She was finished.
If she got caught sneaking out during work hours...
Grandpa was already watching her closely.
Getting caught this time would definitely get her fired from the company.
The road remained clogged for half an hour before finally clearing.
She sprinted back to the company where Noah was waiting at the entrance.
"The Chairman is here. Be careful."
Adrian wasn't around.
No one could help her now.
