Chapter 390
Anna Ross was startled.
She turned to look at the doorway.
Adrian Sinclair stood there.
His gaze swept over her indifferently.
"I thought you left?"
She lowered her head guiltily.
Her fingers unconsciously twisted the corner of the bedsheet.
Adrian stepped inside.
"Just took a phone call."
His voice gave nothing away.
"Were you that eager for me to leave?"
Anna was speechless.
Her cheeks warmed slightly.
Thankfully, he hadn't witnessed her earlier actions.
That would have been mortifying.
"I'm heading back to the office soon."
He adjusted his cuff.
His tone remained flat.
"I've already asked Sophia to come keep you company."
Anna paused.
She hadn't expected him to arrange this.
"There's no need to trouble Sophia."
She spoke softly.
"I'll be fine on my own."
Adrian didn't respond.
The doctor entered just then.
He turned and exchanged a few quiet words with the physician.
Then he left the room.
The doctor carefully examined her injuries.
He asked a few questions.
By the time the doctor left, familiar voices echoed from the hallway.
"Mom, slow down!"
Sophia Roscente carried numerous bags, panting heavily.
"There's no way Anna can eat all this right now."
Cecilia Roscente freed a hand to gently pat her daughter.
"Mind your tone with me."
Her voice held a chiding affection.
Sophia rubbed her head, feigning injury.
"You always play favorites."
Despite her words, her eyes sparkled with amusement.
Cecilia shook her head helplessly.
She pushed the hospital room door open.
Her expression immediately softened with concern upon seeing Anna.
"Anna, are you feeling any better?"
Anna tried to sit up.
Cecilia gently pressed her back down.
"Just rest."
She tenderly straightened the bedsheet.
"Don't stand on ceremony with me."
Sophia set down the packages and approached.
She pouted playfully.
"You never fuss over me, Mom."
Her eyes twinkled with mischief.
Anna looked at the room filled with gifts.
Warmth flooded her heart.
It was just a minor injury.
Yet so many people cared.
Cecilia turned to her daughter.
Her eyes held a gentle smile.
"Sophia."
