Chapter 260
She sniffled softly.
When she looked up at him, her eyes were as still as calm water.
Her tone was so flat it betrayed no emotion.
"Adrian Sinclair, how old are you?"
"How can you be so childish?"
She paused for a moment before continuing.
"The reason I'm helping Howard Lowell, I've said it before."
"He and I are family."
"I'm helping him willingly."
She swallowed, forcing down the surging emotions.
"So, stop guessing."
"No one is threatening me."
"And I don't need your help."
Only after she finished speaking did she realize her voice was trembling.
Adrian listened in silence.
He seemed even calmer than before.
Anna Ross was surprised.
She had said so many harsh things.
Yet he hadn't lost his temper.
According to his usual temperament.
He should have dragged her out of the company by now.
Just as she was feeling puzzled, he suddenly spoke.
His voice was calm, his dark eyes locked on her.
"I'll give you one more chance."
"Tell me the truth."
"Otherwise, he can forget about entering the main company."
He saw right through her disguise.
Clearly flustered, yet stubbornly pretending to be calm.
Anna was so angry she was speechless.
He raised an eyebrow, as if he had succeeded.
"Choose."
"Confess, or let all the previous efforts go to waste?"
She lowered her gaze to the floor.
"I'm telling the truth."
"If you hate me, come at me."
"I don't care."
"But don't involve others."
"One thing at a time, you should understand that."
Adrian suddenly took a step forward.
He gripped her wrist, forcing her to meet his eyes.
"Anna Ross, the reason I'm saying all thisโ"
"You know why."
"Just tell me, and I'll help you no matter what."
There was actually a hint of compromise in his voice.
Anna was stunned.
They were so close, she could even hear his rapid heartbeat.
Was he nervous?
Her lips parted slightly, almost on the verge of blurting it out.
Adrian's eyes lit up, watching her intently.
As if the truth was just a second away.
But she hesitated.
Even if he said he would helpโ
What then?
Her mother was still in Howard Lowell's hands.
She knew exactly what kind of person Howard was.
If he got leverage, it would never end.
She couldn't drag Adrian into this.
Anna smiled faintly.
Her tone returned to its detached state.
"No matter what you say, my answer remains the same."
"No one is threatening me."
She broke free from his grip and coldly looked away.
His figure was still tall and broad.
But now, it seemed inexplicably lonely.
She looked out the window, her voice as light as a sigh.
"Also, his purpose for entering the company isn't simple."
"Be careful yourself."
