Chapter 15
Anna Ross's heart sank at Howard Lowell's answer.
"I don't want to be his Executive Assistant!"
No one had asked for her opinion.
They just decided for her.
Was she really that worthless?
Adrian Sinclair glanced at her with amusement.
He found her struggle ridiculous.
Howard Lowell snapped at her first.
"Aren't you old enough to know better?"
"He is your cousin."
"Family should help each other."
"But..."
Anna tried to argue.
Howard shot her a threatening glare.
Her words stuck in her throat.
"Wait for me in the office."
"We'll handle the handover later."
"Then you'll go to Adrian's side."
It was useless to say anything.
Adrian smirked.
He gave her a victorious smile.
Anna turned her head away.
She didn't want to see his smug expression.
"Since it's decided."
"Come over soon."
"Don't keep me waiting."
"Little cousin."
He walked past her.
Giving her a meaningful look.
Howard signaled Anna to go to the office.
He smiled and followed Adrian.
However unwilling she was.
Anna had to obey.
This only strengthened her resolve to take her mother away!
After a while.
Howard walked in with a cold face.
Muttering under his breath.
"Adrian Sinclair, I remember you."
"Just you wait!"
He sat on the sofa.
Then he noticed Anna.
Anna asked him calmly.
"Why did you agree?"
Howard's eyes still burned with anger.
His tone was harsh.
"Why so many questions?"
"Just remember this."
"Follow Adrian closely."
"Report his every move to me."
"Or don't blame me for what happens to your mother."
He could control Anna.
Because Vivian Lowell was in his hands.
Anna understood.
He agreed to let her go.
Just to spy on Adrian.
How despicable.
But thinking of her mother.
She softened.
"I'll do it."
"But don't touch my mother."
"That depends on your performance."
Howard snorted coldly.
He waved his hand, dismissing her.
Anna returned to her desk.
She couldn't focus on work.
Her mind was in chaos.
Adrian was such a jerk!
He warned her not to provoke him.
Why did he have to come after her?
A colleague noticed her distress.
They couldn't help but ask.
"Are you okay?"
"Not feeling well?"
She looked completely drained.
Anna patted her cheeks.
She told herself to be strong.
Only then could she give her mother the life they wanted!
She hadn't been here long.
She wasn't close to her colleagues.
But they cared about her.
She replied politely.
"Thank you for your concern."
"I'm fine."
"You look nice when you smile."
"You should smile more."
"Don't always look so worried."
Anna felt helpless.
Without all these troubles.
Maybe she could be carefree.
And laugh heartily.
But circumstances didn't allow it.
......
Finally, it was time to leave work.
Anna dragged her tired body out of the company.
She immediately saw the black Maybach.
The window rolled down.
Adrian leaned back casually.
His fingers tapped the steering wheel.
"Get in."
"No, thanks."
"I have to get home."
Anna forced herself to stay calm.
How annoying.
The more she didn't want to see him.
The more he appeared.
As she tried to leave.
Adrian spoke.
"Don't say I didn't warn you."
"You're my Executive Assistant now."
"You have to listen to me."
He watched her stop in the rearview mirror.
Anna closed her eyes.
She told herself not to show weakness in front of him.
She composed herself.
Turning around, she looked directly at him.
"I am your Executive Assistant."
"But Executive Assistants have off hours too."
"I haven't started working yet."
"You have no right to order me around now!"
Adrian gave her a calm, sidelong glance.
Well, she's got some spine now!
His face turned cold.
"Then consider yourself on duty starting now."
He commanded.
Leaving no room for refusal.
Anna was angered by his shamelessness.
Her face flushed with frustration.
"Who does that?"
Just because he was in a high position.
Did that mean he could control others as he pleased?
Adrian started the car.
His tone held a warning.
"You have three seconds to get in."
"Or face the consequences."
Another threat.
Anna laughed bitterly inside.
Adrian and Howard were two of a kind.
But she couldn't refuse.
If he told Howard about yesterday.
Howard would be even crueler to her mother.
She had no choice.
Anna reached for the back door.
It was locked.
"Didn't you tell me to get in?"
"What do you mean?"
"Sit in the front."
Adrian leaned against the seat.
Watching her sideways.
Even simple actions looked dignified.
"What are you trying to do now?"
She clenched her fingers.
She had never understood him.
Adrian ignored her.
Anna had no choice.
She walked around and opened the passenger door.
She slammed it shut.
The door closed with a loud bang.
Adrian remained unfazed.
The car pulled out.
Anna looked around the interior.
It was very clean.
No dust or stains.
No small decorations.
There was a faint scent in the car.
Indescribably pleasant.
But being with Adrian.
She felt uneasy.
It wasn't usually like this.
Adrian's cool voice broke the silence.
"I hope you remember."
"As my Executive Assistant."
"You need to be on call twenty-four seven."
"Without my permission."
"You cannot clock out."
"Understood?"
Anna turned to him in disbelief.
Looking at his cold face.
She was furious but didn't dare speak.
On call twenty-four seven.
How was that different from a slave?
He might as well just say he wanted her to be a slave.
Adrian noticed her silence.
His expression turned displeased.
"Do you have a problem?"
"No."
How dare she have a problem.
Anna looked out the window.
The more she thought about it, the angrier she became.
She muttered under her breath.
"What a complete and utter slave driver!"
"What did you say?"
