Chapter 366
Marcus Hill couldn't bear it any longer and tugged at Sophia Roscente's sleeve.
"Stop talking. He's already hurting enough."
Sophia pressed her lips together and swallowed her words.
She meant well for her cousin, but seeing him like this, further words felt pointless.
"Quiet. Take me home." Adrian Sinclair's voice was hoarse.
His Adam's apple bobbed.
The strong liquor burned his throat like swallowed embers.
Marcus handed his jacket to Sophia.
He alone supported the man leaning against the wall, straining to help him into the back seat.
Just as he got him settled, a phone ringtone cut sharply through the silence.
Sophia had no desire to answer it.
But the ringing persisted, one call after another.
Annoyed, she fished out the phone and tossed it directly into the back seat.
Chloe Valentine's sickly sweet voice instantly filled the car.
"Adrian, are you done working? Come to Grandpa's for dinner. I'm here with him now."
Sophia shuddered, rubbing her arms.
Adrian lay sprawled in the back seat, his forearm draped over his eyes, breathing heavily.
"No. Busy. You eat."
The line went dead silent.
Chloe gripped her phone, nails digging viciously into the leather seat.
She forced down her rage, her voice still cloying.
"Still working this late? You should take care of your health."
Adrian frowned in irritation.
"Hanging up." He tossed the phone aside, and it slid under the seat.
Chloe called his name several times, only to be met with the dial tone.
Her chest heaved with anger. "Liar! He's definitely with that bitch!"
She wasn't actually at the manor; it was just a pretext to test him.
Henry had clearly said Adrian left long ago.
It seemed her mother needed to come sooner.
Once they were married, let's see how Anna Ross could cling to him then!
........
Sophia exchanged a look with Marcus, who was driving.
They fell into a silence.
"Take me to my apartment. Not the Lowell residence." Adrian managed to slur out before slipping into unconsciousness.
Marcus acknowledged the instruction.
He turned the steering wheel, heading down another road.
They reached the apartment deep in the night.
Marcus helped the man into bed.
Sophia brought warm water and gently wiped his face.
"Second time," Marcus sighed, sitting on the edge of the bed.
"Seeing him wrecked like this over someone with the last name Ross."
Love truly made people lose their minds.
Sophia paused her movements.
"What if... our families objected to us? What would you do?"
They had kept their relationship hidden from both sets of parents since it began.
Every meeting felt like a secret affair.
Watching her cousin suffer for love, she couldn't help but wonderโwould her boy fight for her just as desperately?
