Chapter 365
Anna Ross curled her lip. "You went through all that trouble to get me back, just for this?"
To watch him surrounded by women?
"No, sis, let me explainโ" Sophia Roscente rushed after her, but Anna had already turned away.
She only glanced at Adrian Sinclair, her gaze icy cold.
Sophia stomped her foot and charged forward, trying to grab her and make things right.
Everything was ruined now.
Only three people remained in the room.
Lucas Evans glanced sideways at Adrian, a mocking smile on his lips. "Adrian, it's been a few days. Your taste in women... truly becomes more eye-opening by the day."
Though the words were aimed at Adrian, Marcus Hill was the first to explode.
He shot to his feet. "What's that supposed to mean?"
His friend might be a player, but that didn't give an outsider the right to criticize.
Adrian leaned lazily against the sofa, lifting his eyelids slightly to look at Lucas.
"Need I spell it out?" Lucas sneered. "You used to bully Anna because you were her boss. Now she's finally free."
"Lucas, watch your mouth!"
Marcus clenched his fist, ready to throw a punch, but Adrian raised a hand to stop him.
He stared at Lucas. "Are you two together now?"
Lucas scoffed coldly. "None of your concern. It's only a matter of time. Aren't you getting engaged? It's not appropriate for you to meddle too much."
He won the verbal battle, but his heart felt uncomfortably tight.
After a few moments of silence, Lucas spat out, "Stay away from her."
He turned and left.
This was his best chance. He wouldn't let go.
Adrian's face darkened instantly.
The word "engagement" felt like a needle piercing his heart.
No. He had to go out. At the very least, he had to say something!
"Adrian, where are you going!" Marcus couldn't stop him as Adrian stumbled out the door.
Marcus grabbed his jacket and chased after him.
Adrian had just reached the entrance when his steps froze.
Anna was getting into Lucas's car.
The engine started. The taillights disappeared into the night.
His eyes reddened, a throbbing pain erupting at his temples.
He leaned his head back against the wall, but the agony didn't lessen in the slightest.
He raised a hand to press against his temple, his knuckles turning white.
"Adrian!" Marcus arrived and supported him.
Sophia followed, looking at her dejected cousin with a mix of anger and helplessness. "Cousin, I specifically tricked her into coming. Did you have to put on that show? Did making her misunderstand you feel good?"
She had wanted to help him. Now she was caught in the middle.
She was exhausted.
Adrian remained silent, his brow tightly furrowed, his face pale as paper.
