Chapter 230
Anna Ross released her grip and answered softly, "Take me home. I took the day off."
A day off was rare. It was the perfect chance to catch up on sleep before her evening shift at the bar.
He drove in silence, taking her all the way to her doorstep.
The moment she stepped out of the car, it sped away.
She watched the taillights disappear, a wave of exhaustion washing over her.
He was always like thisโhot and cold.
Back in her room, she collapsed onto the bed.
She had barely slept last night, and now the fatigue hit her hard.
She fell into a deep sleep and didn't wake until the sky was completely dark.
Hunger pangs stirred her. She got up to find something to eat.
Luckily, she had stocked up on snacks. She curled up on the couch, eating slowly.
After filling her stomach, she checked the time.
It was time to head to the bar.
She got ready and went downstairs, only to see a familiar Maybach parked outside.
Adrian Sinclair leaned against the car door, his figure starkly clear in the night.
Anna froze.
Hadn't he left hours ago?
"Get in. I'll take you to the bar." His tone was flat.
Anna couldn't help but retort, "But you already left earlier?"
Had he been waiting here the entire time she was asleep?
That was ridiculous!
Before she could finish, Adrian strode toward her.
He grabbed her wrist and practically shoved her into the passenger seat.
Furious at his high-handedness, Anna struggled to get out.
"You always do this! You never ask what I want!"
His fingers tightened, preventing her escape.
He looked down at her, anger simmering in his eyes.
"Are you so against me driving you because you're afraid I'll interrupt your dinner with Julian?"
His voice was icy.
Anna flinched and stopped resisting.
"Let go," she said petulantly. "I'll sit properly."
He released her, watching as she fastened her seatbelt before closing her door.
Anna glared at his back, muttering under her breath, "So childish!"
Her gaze could have drilled holes through him.
Adrian slid into the driver's seat, and she immediately looked away.
Silence filled the car. Neither spoke during the entire ride.
Anna thought of Howard Lowell's instructions, her mood growing heavier.
Even her expression betrayed her irritation.
"Are you angry?" Adrian glanced at her, suddenly wanting to smooth the frown from her brow.
She had been looking so troubled lately.
Anna snapped out of her thoughts and shook her head. "No."
He didn't press further. The silence lasted until they reached the bar.
After getting out, Adrian directly took her hand.
Anna instinctively tried to pull away, but he held on tightly.
He stared straight ahead, his tone casual. "Let's go. Your dear Julian must be waiting."
