Chapter 44

Howard Lowell sneered and shook off Vivian's hand.

Anna's heart ached.

She couldn't bear to watch her mother suffer any longer.

But her plan wasn't fully prepared yet.

Howard glared at them with disgust.

He snorted coldly.

If he didn't need Anna to monitor Adrian Sinclair, he wouldn't bother with them at all.

Then he reconsidered.

Letting her move out might actually be beneficial.

"Keep a close eye on Adrian."

"Don't forget my orders."

"You must secure him."

Anna's fingertips turned cold.

Secure Adrian?

That was utterly impossible.

He hated her to the core.

Trying to do this would only bring her humiliation.

But she knew Howard's methods too well.

If she didn't agree, she could forget about leaving.

For now, she had no choice but to comply.

"I understand."

Howard turned and left.

His footsteps faded down the stairs.

Anna let out a long sigh of relief.

Today had been full of twists and turns.

But at least she could finally move out.

"Anna."

"I won't stop you."

"Please take good care of yourself out there."

Vivian held her hand tightly.

Her eyes were full of reluctance.

"Don't worry."

"I'll come back for you once I'm settled."

Anna comforted her softly.

Though parting was painful, escape was the only way forward.

A quick break was better than prolonged suffering.

Back in her room, she immediately called Mia.

She had hung up abruptly earlier.

She worried her friend might be upset.

The call connected quickly.

"Anna?"

"Why did you hang up so suddenly?"

Anna quickly explained.

"Something came up."

"It's handled now."

"Where is the apartment you mentioned?"

"It's near Bay Area."

"When are you moving?"

"Tomorrow works!"

Anna was overjoyed.

Bay Area was very close to the company.

Mia chuckled lightly.

"Call me tomorrow."

"I'll come pick you up."

After hanging up, Anna lay on her bed.

She could finally escape this house.

She suddenly remembered something.

She picked up her phone and texted Adrian.

[Thank you for today.]

After a pause, she added.

[I need half a day off tomorrow to move.]

[I'll come straight to work after.]

She waited for a while.

There was no reply.

Perhaps he was already asleep.

Or maybe he hadn't seen it.

But she had already requested the time off.

It should be fine.

Anna held her phone.

She gradually drifted into sleep.
