Chapter 468
Noah Watson nodded in acknowledgment.
He turned to leave.
Adrian Sinclair spoke abruptly. "Send Anna Ross in."
"Understood."
Noah stepped out of the office.
He couldn't resist glancing back.
His boss's expression was terrifyingly dark.
Was he about to make an example of his Executive Assistant?
Noah recalled Adrian's rage.
A chill ran down his spine.
Things looked grim for Anna.
Anna Ross sneezed twice.
Her head felt heavy.
Someone must be talking about her again.
She stared at the leaked contract documents.
Chloe Valentine had only asked her to contact the client.
She hadn't handled anything beyond that.
Where did it all go wrong?
Her phone vibrated.
Noah's name flashed on the screen.
Her heart skipped a beat.
Did the company already know?
Her fingers trembled as she answered. "Anna speaking."
"Mr. Sinclair wants you in his office. Now." The words stole her breath.
It was happening.
"I'll be right there." She ended the call.
She took a deep breath.
Her palms were damp with sweat.
He was summoning her about the breach.
He wouldn't believe her either.
She stood before his office door.
She knocked softly.
"Enter." His low voice filtered through.
She pushed the door open.
Adrian was focused on his files.
He didn't even look up.
Anna clenched the fabric of her clothes. "I didn't do it."
The typing stopped abruptly.
His gaze lifted, cold and piercing. "Come here."
His tone held suppressed anger.
She approached slowly.
Adrian opened a drawer.
He flung a document onto the desk. "Explain this."
She picked up the paper.
Her eyes widened in shock.
All the evidence pointed to her computer.
Chloe had set her up perfectly.
Adrian leaned back in his chair.
His eyes were sharp as blades. "I thought you were capable."
"Apparently, I was wrong."
"It wasn't me!" Her voice broke.
Others could doubt her.
But his accusation cut deepest.
A wave of hurt washed over her.
Worse than anything Chloe had ever caused.
Tears threatened to spill.
Adrian's brow furrowed slightly.
He knew he had been too harsh.
But he didn't know how to take it back.
