Chapter 439

Chloe Valentine bit her lip until it turned white.

Her fingertips were pale from clenching too hard.

She released her hand, eyes filled with resentment.

Adrian Sinclair turned to drive.

He dropped Chloe off at her home and headed straight back to his villa.

Her parents were still in New York.

He didn't want to return to his grandfather's place.

Going back would only mean endless nagging.

He dialed his grandfather.

The old man's voice was displeased. "Adrian, why aren't you back? I told you to bring Chloe along."

Adrian bent over, rubbing his temples.

"Grandpa, I've said I don't want to get married."

"Nothing has changed."

Their initial meeting was forced upon him.

If not for his grandfather's hospitalization, he would never have gone.

Silence lingered on the other end.

His grandfather sighed. "Adrian, I know you're unwilling."

"But all of this is for your own good."

Adrian pulled out a cigarette and placed it between his lips.

"I have the ability to stand on my own."

"I don't need a marriage to secure my position."

He eventually put the cigarette down.

His grandfather suddenly started coughing.

"Adrian, this matter is not up for discussion."

"Unless you no longer care about this old bones."

Adrian's voice turned grim. "Grandpa!"

He could give up everything.

But he would never harm his grandfather.

His mother's final words still echoed in his ears.

The old man chuckled lightly. "In life, can everything truly go your way?"

Adrian lit the cigarette.

The flame flickered, smoke blurring his features.

He once told Marcus Hill he would never agree to an arranged marriage.

Yet now, he was the one trapped.

......

Anna Ross returned home.

The lights were on. Sophia Roscente was back.

Sophia was curled on the sofa, playing on her laptop.

She cheered upon seeing Anna enter. "Did you miss me, sis?"

Anna bent down to change her shoes.

"Sophia, I'm exhausted."

"I'm going to rest now. You should sleep early too."

Sophia was stunned.

She still had things to say.

Her intuition told her something was wrong.

She messaged her cousin, but received no reply.

Sophia sighed.

The adult world was so difficult to understand.

She needed to ask Marcus Hill for information.

The next day, Anna went to work listlessly.

During her lunch break, Noah Watson suddenly approached.

Anna was surprised.

They hadn't seen each other much since she left her executive assistant position.

"Assistant Watson, is something the matter?"
