Anna Ross curved her lips into a faint smile.
Lucas Evans was clearly holding back information.
It had been so long since she last felt this lighthearted.

The gathering was in full swing.
Someone came to invite Adrian Sinclair for a drink.
He wasn't in the mood.
His gaze remained fixed on the two empty seats.
Why was she taking so long?
Adrian irritably loosened his tie.
He stood up and left the table.
He walked toward the restroom with a cold smirk.
Two familiar figures came into view.
Anna was leaning against Lucas's chest.
Rage instantly surged in Adrian's eyes.
His hands clenched into tight fists.
Lucas supported a unsteady Anna.
Panic was still written across his face.
His voice was tense. "Anna, are you okay? I'll take you to the hospital!"
Anna shook her head.
"It's nothing. I probably just skipped breakfast."
She struggled to stand straight.
She tried to lean against the wall.
She wanted to avoid any misunderstanding.
Lucas reached out to steady her.
Her sudden dizziness had frightened him.
"Anna Ross, I underestimated you."
"You said you were going to the restroom."
"But you're actually here having a secret rendezvous."
"Are you that desperate?"
Adrian's sarcastic voice cut through the air.
Anna whirled around.
She saw him standing behind them with a cold expression.
Her eyes widened in alarm.
She quickly stepped back.
Putting distance between herself and Lucas.
She couldn't drag Lucas into trouble again.
But the action looked like guilt in Adrian's eyes.
Adrian strode closer.
He turned his head to look at Anna.
His icy gaze burned her, forcing her to look down.
He was taller than Lucas.
An intimidating chill radiated from him.
"Anna Ross, you're truly despicable."
Lucas couldn't take it anymore.
"Enough, Adrian!"
"Anna almost fainted. I was just helping her."
"How dare you humiliate her?"
Adrian scoffed.
"How dare I?"
"She belongs to me."
"I can do whatever I want with her."
"Why is an outsider meddling?"
The word "outsider" stung Lucas.
He gritted his teeth. "If you bully her again, I won't hold back!"
A dangerous glint flashed in Adrian's eyes.
He grabbed Lucas by the collar.
Lucas immediately seized his wrist in return.
Anna pleaded in fear. "Stop this, please!"
She was afraid of causing a scene.
But neither man seemed to hear her.
The tension between them remained high.
Anna stepped forward.
She forcefully pulled Lucas's hand away.
Then she grabbed Adrian and dragged him in the opposite direction.
"Come with me!"
Surprisingly, Adrian actually obeyed.
Lucas stood frozen.
Watching them walk away.
Anna had just breathed a sigh of relief.
When Adrian suddenly twisted his wrist.
He seized her.
And pulled her toward the stairwell.
Before she could react.
He pinned her hard against the wall.
