Chapter 379
Anna Ross was about to speak when a wave of intense dizziness struck her.
Her vision darkened, forcing her to close her eyes and steady herself.
When she opened them again, her eyes widened in terror.
"Behind you!" she screamed, her voice breaking.
The man was charging toward them, a knife raised high, his face twisted with malice.
Just as the blade was about to descend, Adrian Sinclair swiftly pulled her into his arms and sidestepped.
A sharp tearing sound echoed through the air, and the man collapsed to the floor.
Anna frantically turned to check on Adrian.
A long, deep gash ran down his arm.
His custom-tailored suit was slashed open, and his white shirt was instantly stained crimson with blood.
"You're hurt!" Anna reached out urgently, trying to staunch the bleeding.
He merely said, "It's nothing," his voice flat.
The man on the ground struggled to get up.
The doorway was now crowded with people, and several security guards rushed in, pinning him firmly to the floor.
His face pressed against the ground, the man still hurled vicious insults at her.
"You gold-digging bitch, you'll get what's coming toโah!"
His words were cut short by a sharp cry of pain.
Adrian's foot came down hard on his head, crushing him back against the floor.
"Say one more word," Adrian's voice was ice, "and I'll make you regret it right now."
With that, he scooped her into his arms and turned to leave.
Anna stared blankly at his cold, stern profile.
"Anna!" Lucas Evans arrived in a hurry, just in time to see the girl he loved being carried in another man's arms.
Confusion and jealousy twisted inside him.
Adrian walked straight past him, not even sparing him a glance.
Rage burned within Lucas.
Weren't they together already?
Is this how he took care of her?
Letting her face such danger.
If he had been even a moment later, the consequences would have been unthinkable.
One of Anna's arms wrapped around his shoulder, the other pressed against her still-bleeding neck.
Blood loss made her head spin, but she was acutely aware of the situation.
"Adrian, put me down. Today is your engagement party. I don't want to ruin it because of me," she whispered, her voice faint and weak.
Adrian's arms tightened around her abruptly, his knuckles turning white with strain.
Each step he took was heavy with suppressed fury.
"Shut up if you want to live."
How dare she?
How dare she say such a thing at a time like this?
He wanted to crack open her skull and see what was really going on inside.
Anna didn't dare speak another word, letting him carry her to the car in silence.
Throughout the drive to the hospital, her gaze remained fixed on his injured arm.
"I'm sorry. If it weren't for me..." If not for her, he would be at his engagement party right now, not in this miserable state.
Adrian's lips were pressed into a thin line, as if he were holding back his emotions with great effort.
After a long silence, he finally spoke, his tone cold. "Your dear father called me here on purpose, didn't he? Just to make me miss my own engagement party?"
Anna froze as if struck by lightning.
He knew everything.
Now he must think she's a shameless, wicked woman.
"But he said you weren't feeling well. So why was I met with this scene instead? Did you hire an actor to make it more convincing?"
He glanced at her dismissively, his voice dripping with sarcasm.
Just as cold and distant as when they had first reunited.
