Chapter 257
Anna Ross looked up at her.
She spoke after a moment, her tone flat.
"Are you so certain he will marry you?"
Chloe Valentine's face instantly darkened.
She grabbed Anna's wrist.
"What do you mean!?"
Her voice was shrill and piercing.
Adrian Sinclair turned at the sound.
Chloe quickly released her grip.
She stood frozen, not daring to move.
He only gave her a brief glance.
"I have a meeting. I'm leaving."
He turned and walked away without hesitation.
Chloe's expression immediately shifted.
She glared viciously at Anna.
"Don't think such words can scare me."
"Adrian will always be mine."
Anna had no desire to continue this.
She stepped past Chloe.
Her words drifted lightly behind her.
"Whether you become Mrs. Sinclair remains uncertain."
Chloe stood rooted to the spot.
She replayed those words over and over.
Suddenly, she lost control and screamed.
The sound echoed through the entire lobby.
Anna Ross!
I hate you!
The documents crumpled in her clenched fist.
Her chest heaved with violent breaths.
Passing employees cast sidelong glances.
She glared back fiercely.
Once she became Mrs. Sinclair.
She would fire every one of these gossiping onlookers first.
Anna returned to her workstation.
She let out a soft sigh.
Chloe probably never considered.
The marriage she obsessed over.
The other party had no intention of proposing.
A new email popped up on her computer.
She collected herself and began working.
During lunch break.
Anna stood by the window gazing into the distance.
Her eyes felt sore and tired.
Her phone suddenly vibrated.
Howard Lowell's number flashed on the screen.
She frowned, not wanting to answer.
The call persisted, ringing incessantly.
Eventually, she pressed the answer button.
"What is it?"
Her voice was cold and distant.
Howard Lowell exhaled a cloud of smoke.
"Any news from the old man?"
His tone was uncharacteristically calm.
Anna lowered her gaze.
"No."
Her fingers tightened slightly.
Silence lingered on the other end for a moment.
Then, a low chuckle came through.
"No rush."
"With him speaking on our behalf."
"This matter is practically settled."
Amid the swirling smoke.
His laughter carried an air of absolute confidence.
