Chapter 56

Adrian Sinclairโ€™s gaze was icy.

Anna Ross dared to pull away from another man right in front of him.

Now she was trying to escape as if nothing had happened.

Did she think she could get away?

His warning earlier today clearly wasnโ€™t enough.

He stepped forward.

Reached out to grab Anna.

But another hand stopped him.

Chloe Valentineโ€™s eyes welled with tears.

Her voice trembled with hurt. "Adrian, why did you leave me alone at the restaurant?"

Adrian paused.

He turned to look at her.

Anna seized the chance to leave.

Urgency flashed in his eyes.

But he couldnโ€™t shake Chloe off.

He forced patience into his tone. "Chloe, I have work to discuss. Iโ€™ll be right back."

Chloeโ€™s fingers trembled slightly.

She knew it was an excuse.

But she couldnโ€™t make a scene.

She released his arm.

Softly, she said, "Then hurry back."

Adrian nodded.

He quickly caught up to Anna.

Blocked her path.

Anna startled.

Stopped immediately.

Seeing his severe expression, she turned to go around him.

He blocked her again.

She frowned, about to speak.

Another figure suddenly appeared.

Lucas Evans stepped in front of her.

He glared coldly at Adrian. "What do you think youโ€™re doing? Stay away from her!"

Annaโ€™s heart raced.

She tried to intervene.

But Adrian spoke first. "Always meddling. Iโ€™m discussing work with my subordinate. This doesnโ€™t concern you."

Adrianโ€™s face darkened.

The two men faced off.

Tension thickened the air.

Anna stepped forward.

She met Adrianโ€™s gaze directly. "You wanted to talk about work? Go ahead."

She surprised herself with how calm she sounded.

Adrian snorted. "A reminder to be on time tomorrow."

His eyes sharpened. "No unnecessary absences. If something like today happens again, I canโ€™t be responsible for my actions."

He gave her a cold glance.

Turned and walked back to Chloe.

Chloe heard it was indeed about work.

She shot Anna a glare.

Her mood improved.

She linked her arm with Adrianโ€™s and they left.

Only Lucas and Anna remained.

After a moment of silence, Lucas spoke. "Itโ€™s okay now. Let me take you home."

Anna understood.

Adrian was gone.

She didnโ€™t need to be afraid.

But Adrianโ€™s warning was clear.

She didnโ€™t want to drag Lucas into this.

"No need. Iโ€™ll take a cab."

She pulled out her phone to book a ride.

Traffic was busy.

A car arrived quickly.

She said goodbye to Lucas.

Got into the car.

The car drove away.

Lucas watched her leave.

A sad expression crossed his gentle face.
