Chapter 82
The sound of running water stopped.
Anna Ross dried her hands and turned around.
Lucas Evans stood not far away.
He held a package of medicine and gauze.
His gaze was full of concern as he looked at her.
"Let me bandage that for you," he said, shaking the medical supplies slightly.
Anna paused.
She hadn't realized he went specifically to buy medicine.
A flicker of warmth touched her heart.
She nodded gently. "Alright. Thank you."
They walked to the sofa in the lounge area and sat down.
Lucas knelt before her.
He applied the medicine with gentle movements.
The cotton swab, soaked in antiseptic lotion, brushed over the burn.
Anna's fingertips trembled slightly.
"Does it hurt?" he asked, looking up.
"No," she shook her head.
Her eyes, however, darted around nervously.
She was afraid someone might see this.
The gauze was quickly and neatly applied.
Anna stood up immediately.
She maintained a distance of one step between them.
"Thank you, Lucas."
He gathered the medical supplies.
He offered a gentle smile. "How did you get so careless?"
"I bumped into a server earlier and got splashed with hot soup," she explained.
Her gaze flickered toward the hallway.
The floor had already been cleaned.
Lucas was about to speak.
Her phone suddenly rang.
Seeing the caller ID, Anna's expression shifted slightly.
It was Adrian Sinclair.
She answered the call quickly.
A low, displeased voice came from the other end. "The food is all served. Where are you, the one who was supposed to hurry them along?"
"I'll be right back," she responded hastily.
The call ended abruptly.
She looked at Lucas. "I have to go."
Her wrist was gently held.
Lucas's eyes were dark and unreadable.
He was silent for a moment before speaking. "Anna, he's just your boss. You don't need to be at his beck and call."
Anna lowered her gaze.
She looked at his hand holding hers.
A bitter smile touched her lips. "This is my job."
Lucas frowned deeply.
His voice was filled with heartache. "If you're unhappy, I can help you."
