Anna Ross had just set down the documents when her phone screen lit up.

She frowned slightly at the caller ID.

Pamela rarely contacted her at this hour.

After a moment's hesitation, she answered the call. "Pamela, what's up?"

The background noise was chaotic, and the bar owner's voice was rushed. "Anna, we have a big event at the bar tonight. We're short-staffed. Try to come in early if you can."

Anna glanced at her schedule. She had finished most of her work for the day.

She agreed readily. "Okay, Pamela. I'll be there early."

Pamela gave a few quick instructions before hanging up.

Anna placed her phone back on the desk. Her gaze fell on the document folder beside it.

She needed to deliver these files first.

She checked the time. There was still half an hour until the end of her workday.

She looked around. Adrian Sinclair's office was empty.

Noah Watson happened to walk by, holding a tablet. She quickly called out to him. "Noah."

He stopped. "Yes, Ms. Ross? What do you need?"

Anna explained briefly. "I need to leave early to deliver some documents. Mr. Sinclair is already aware."

Noah nodded. "I'll inform Mr. Sinclair."

After thanking him, Anna picked up the documents and her bag, heading quickly toward the elevator.

Her ride-sharing app showed a car was already waiting downstairs.

She got into the taxi and checked the destination address.

The driver noticed her checking her watch frequently in the rearview mirror. He reassured her, "I know this route well. We'll be there soon."

Anna thanked him quietly. She rolled down the window, letting the breeze ease her anxiety.

Upon arriving at the hotel lobby, she hesitated about going upstairs.

Chloe Valentine had specifically requested she deliver the documents. She wondered what Chloe was planning.

She checked the time again. She couldn't be late for the bar.

She approached the front desk, considering leaving the documents there.

But remembering Chloe's emphasis on their importance, she dismissed the idea.

Finally, she headed toward the elevator.

She found the room according to the number and knocked gently.

The door opened quickly. She handed over the files. "These are the documents Director Valentine requested."

The moment she looked up, she froze in place.

"Lucas? Why are you here?"
