Chapter 480
She had shielded him earlier.
He hadn't expected that.
Anna Ross dried her hair with a towel.
The water stopped dripping.
She handed the towel back to him.
"I should go now."
The wet clothes clung uncomfortably to her skin.
She didn't want to stay any longer.
Being alone with him made her uneasy.
"Wait." He started to speak.
The office door was knocked.
Both looked toward the entrance.
Adrian Sinclair glanced at her.
"Come in."
Noah Watson entered with a paper bag.
"Miss Ross, here are fresh clothes."
"It's cold. Change so you don't catch a chill."
Anna remembered the phone call now.
Adrian had asked Noah to buy clothes.
She hesitated, not taking the bag.
"Change here."
"We'll step out."
Adrian said calmly.
He motioned for Noah to leave with him.
Anna picked up the clothes from the sofa.
A white knit sweater.
A camel-colored coat.
They were thoughtfully coordinated.
Footsteps faded outside the door.
She moved behind the bookshelf.
Quickly changed out of the wet clothes.
The new outfit fit surprisingly well.
Noah had a good eye.
She packed the wet clothes into the bag.
Planning to take them home to wash.
Just as she reached for the door.
It was pushed open from outside.
It wasn't Adrian who entered.
It was Chloe Valentine and Grandpa Frederick.
Adrian followed behind them.
Anna wanted to greet them.
The old man spoke first.
"Miss Ross, I've made myself clear."
"You should understand."
Anna's heart tightened.
"Chairman, I was just leaving."
She walked toward the door.
Adrian grabbed her hand.
"Why are you leaving?"
"What did Grandpa say to you?"
"Let me go." She struggled.
His grip was firm.
Chloe watched them.
Her eyes nearly spat fire.
She stepped forward and pulled Adrian away.
"Adrian, Miss Ross has things to do."
"Grandpa needs to speak with you."
Anna freed her hand.
Left without looking back.
Here, she felt like an outsider.
Out of place.
The old man's words echoed in her ears.
Adrian stared at the direction she left.
Veins bulged on the back of his hand.
"Grandpa, what did you say to her?"
He couldn't stay calm.
The thought of her being wronged.
Made his heart churn.
The old man sat down.
"Adrian, I only want what's best for you."
"I hope you understand."
"She hasn't done anything wrong." His voice was icy.
Grandpa Frederick looked at him in disbelief.
Though his face showed no emotion.
He knew his grandson was angry.
This was the first time he had spoken to him like this over a woman.
