Chapter 54
They chatted for a while longer before continuing their meal.
Lucas Evans watched her, the corners of his lips lifting slightly.
He made a silent vow to himself.
This time, he would not let go again.
....
Adrian Sinclair returned to his seat, but his gaze kept drifting involuntarily toward Anna Ross.
Watching her laugh and talk with another man made his chest feel tight.
Chloe Valentine had been looking down at her phone and hadn't noticed anything unusual.
Seeing him return, she put her phone down happily.
"Adrian, you're back."
He didn't respond.
Chloe felt a twinge of doubt.
He had excused himself abruptly earlier, saying he was going to the restroom.
She had waited quietly, sensing nothing wrong.
But now she could feel his mind was clearly elsewhere.
Chloe followed his line of sight and realized he was stealing glances at Anna.
She trembled with anger.
Her once lovely face twisted with fury.
"Adrian?"
She called his name again.
He still didn't react, as if he hadn't heard her at all.
Jealousy gnawed at her heart.
She had long suspected there was something between Adrian and Anna.
Seeing his jealous expression now confirmed her suspicions.
But Adrian was hers. No one else could have him!
She stood up and served him some food, reminding him softly, "Adrian, eat up. What are you spacing out for?"
Adrian finally snapped out of it and gave a noncommittal grunt.
He picked up some food from next to his plate and ate it.
Chloe nearly stamped her foot in frustration.
He had ignored the food she served him.
Suppressing her anger, she forced a sweet smile. "How does it taste?"
Adrian didn't look up. "It's alright."
Watching Anna enjoy her meal so much made everything taste like ash to him.
He could barely swallow.
He didn't understand how she could laugh so happily.
He clenched his fist, the veins on the back of his hand standing out.
Chloe continued, "But this steak is a bit tough, not very tender."
"Besides that, I like everything else."
She waited for his response, but he only hummed in acknowledgment.
Hearing his dismissive tone, her expression froze.
Reason told her she couldn't lose her temper.
No matter how upset she was, she could only eat in silence.
After the meal, Anna checked the time.
It was very late.
She began to feel anxious.
Even though she had moved out, returning home too late always made her uneasy.
Lucas noticed her concern and said gently, "Let me drive you."
He couldn't let her go back alone so late at night.
Anna instinctively glanced toward Adrian.
She happened to meet his gaze.
Her heart tightened.
If he saw Lucas driving her home, she didn't know how he would make things difficult for her.
She politely declined. "No, thank you. I can go back by myself."
