Chapter 152
Chloe Valentine looked at him with confusion. "Adrian, what's wrong?"
"Something urgent came up. I'll have the driver take you home." He gave a brief explanation and pushed the door open to get out.
She grabbed his wrist, her eyes reddening. "Can't you take me home first? What's so urgent..."
Adrian Sinclair's expression remained cold, but his voice softened slightly. "Don't be difficult. It's really important."
He pulled his hand away and closed the car door.
Chloe stared at the shut door, her nails digging deeply into her palms.
Adrian sped back to the company, only to find Anna Ross's workstation already empty.
He stood still, his heart tightening inexplicably.
If she really had something urgent to tell him...
If he missed it...
He didn't dare think further. Turning around, he rushed downstairs and headed straight to the bar where she performed.
The owner approached with an eager smile. "Sir, may Iโ"
"Is Anna Ross here?" He cut her off, his gaze urgently scanning the stage.
The owner understood. Another person looking for Anna Ross.
She shook her head regretfully. "Unfortunately, she took the day off. But if you'd like to see her, you can come back tomorrow..."
Before she could finish, the man had already turned and left, leaving behind a cold shadow.
The owner muttered, "Why is everyone in such a hurry lately..."
Adrian leaned against his car, dialing her number repeatedly.
No answer.
He clenched his phone, his knuckles turning white.
...
Anna Ross was walking slowly along the lake.
Her phone vibrated in her pocket, that name flashing across the screen.
Her fingers trembled, almost answering.
But Chloe's words from earlier echoed suddenlyโ
"He's going to marry me."
A sharp pain pierced her heart.
She closed her eyes, letting the ringtone sound again and again until it finally fell silent.
Passersby cast curious glances, but she remained oblivious.
Adrian stepped on the accelerator, his speed skyrocketing.
He let out a cold laugh, but anxiety churned in his eyes.
Was she always this good at tormenting him?
He parked the car outside her apartment building.
He was about to go upstairs when he ran into Anna returning home.
Both froze simultaneously.
Their eyes met.
The air suddenly solidified.
