Chapter 112
"Alright, take good care of yourself at home."
Vivian Lowell's voice was gentle. "Mom is fine here at home. You're out there all alone. Tell me if anything happens."
Anna Ross felt her nose sting slightly.
She couldn't help but wish her mother could always be by her side, no matter where she went. How wonderful that would be.
But this wish would come true someday.
She suppressed her emotions and replied softly, "I will, Mom."
She waited quietly for the other end to hang up first.
Anna tossed her phone aside and lay down on the bed, ready to sleep.
The most important thing right now was to work hard and earn money.
Everything else, she shouldn't think about anymore.
Some things simply couldn't be changed just because she wanted them to.
Ding dongโ
A message suddenly popped up on her phone.
[Adrian: Come pick me up.]
It was followed immediately by a location pin.
Anna stared at the screen, her chest tight with anger.
Did he get uncomfortable if he didn't torment her for a single day?
She really wanted to pretend she hadn't seen it.
Waitโwasn't he having dinner with Chloe Valentine? Why was he asking her to pick him up?
Had something happened?
After hesitating for a few seconds, she still got up, changed clothes, and called a car on her phone.
She quickly arrived at the restaurant Adrian had sent.
It had a classic design, elegant and tasteful, even more upscale than the last one.
Anna got out of the car and asked the driver to wait.
She was about to make a call when she spotted Adrian sitting on a bench near the entrance.
She hurried over.
Before she even got close, she caught a faint scent of alcohol.
"Why are you here alone?" she couldn't help asking.
Where were Grandpa Frederick and Chloe Valentine? How could they leave him here by himself?
Adrian looked up at her.
He stood, his tone carrying a hint of dissatisfaction. "You're too slow. Not afraid I'd freeze to death on the roadside?"
With that, he directly walked past her, pulled open the car door, and got into the taxi.
Anna stood frozen in place, gritting her teeth in anger.
It was already good enough that she came to pick him up, and he still complained?
She took a deep breath, telling herself not to get angry, and followed him into the car.
Adrian leaned back against the seat, eyes closed, looking exhausted.
Anna suddenly felt a strange pang of emotion.
He was the one who went to dinner with his fiancรฉe, yet in the end, she was the one picking him up in the middle of the night.
She couldn't help muttering under her breath, "Has a driver but doesn't use him. Insists on making someone without a car come pick him up. Can bosses just be this willful?"
Her voice was very soft, but Adrian still heard it.
He lifted his eyelids slightly, giving her a glance, and explained flatly, "The driver went to take Chloe home."
Anna was startled.
She hadn't expected him to hear, and instantly felt flustered.
But what confused her more was, why didn't he take her home himself?
Sensing Adrian's gaze still resting on her, she quickly changed the subject. "It's getting late. I'll take you back first."
Only after saying it did she remember she had no idea where he lived.
She turned to look at him and asked hesitantly, "By the way, where do you live?"
