Chapter 143

Their eyes met.

Both froze in place.

The surrounding noise instantly faded.

Anna Ross quickly lowered her gaze.

He must be here to pick up Chloe Valentine for dinner.

She decided to ignore him and walk away silently.

She had only taken two steps when Adrian Sinclair called out to her.

"Adjusting well to your new position?" His voice was cold, his gaze sidelong.

Anna turned back, her tone defiant. "No need for your concern, Mr. Sinclair. I'm perfectly fine."

He was the one who forcibly transferred her here. His feigned concern was meaningless.

She finished speaking and tried to leave.

Her wrist was caught in a firm grip.

Adrian frowned slightly. "What's with the attitude?"

Anna struggled hard, but it was useless.

Her irritation grew.

A dull ache had settled in her chest ever since she heard about their engagement.

Seeing him only made it worse.

She looked up, meeting his eyes directly. Her voice was cool. "Please maintain your distance, Mr. Sinclair. This is the office. If Ms. Valentine sees, it could cause misunderstandings. You wouldn't want that affecting your relationship, would you?"

Adrian was taken aback.

Anna seized the chance to break free and walked away quickly.

He watched her retreating figure, pondering her words. A slow smile curved his lips.

Was she jealous?

"Adrian, what's so fascinating?" Chloe Valentine walked out, following his gaze but seeing nothing.

Adrian wiped the smile from his face. "Nothing. Just waiting for you. Let's go."

Chloe happily linked her arm with his.

They took a car to a private room in the restaurant.

Chloe's parents had been waiting for some time.

The round table was laden with exquisite dishes.

Seeing Adrian enter, the couple immediately stood up.

Harold Valentine smiled warmly. "Adrian, you're here. Please, have a seat."

Lydia Valentine smiled gracefully, every inch the sophisticated socialite.

Adrian gave a slight nod. "Uncle. Aunt."

Harold beamed, waiting for Adrian to sit before taking his own seat.

Chloe moved to lean happily against Adrian, but a look from her mother stopped her.

"I've long heard of the remarkable young Mr. Sinclair. Seeing you today, the reputation is well-deserved." Harold raised his glass in a toast.

The corner of Adrian's mouth lifted. "You flatter me, Uncle."

He tipped his head back and drained his glass as a sign of respect.
