Chapter 294
Noah Watsonโs eyes flickered with surprise.
โIf somethingโs troubling you, Anna, you can tell me.โ
โIt might be presumptuous to say this, but after working together for so long, I consider you a true friend.โ
Anna Ross didnโt know how to respond.
She offered a faint smile.
โThank you.โ
Her gaze drifted to the restaurant downstairs.
Remembering the morningโs events, she asked casually, โHave you ever been to that restaurant downstairs, Noah?โ
Noah glanced down and shook his head with a smile.
โNo. Itโs part of Sinclair Groupโs holdings.โ
โI usually eat at the employee cafeteria.โ
Anna froze for a moment.
No wonder she hadnโt needed to pay during breakfastโit was his familyโs business.
โDo you want to eat there, Anna?โ Noahโs tone held genuine surprise.
She quickly waved her hand.
โJust curious.โ
Checking the time, she stood up.
โItโs getting late. I should return to my desk.โ
Noah nodded and bid her farewell.
When she returned to her workstation, Chloe Valentine was gone.
But that tall, imposing figure remained standing nearby.
Recalling their earlier confrontation, Anna approached with an expressionless face.
She handed him the documents, her voice cool.
โWhat you asked for.โ
Adrian Sinclair raised an eyebrow, amused by her sharp tone.
โAre you upset that I didnโt defend you earlier?โ He stepped closer, his shadow enveloping her.
Anna retreated half a step, her face tense.
โWhy would I be upset? Sheโs your fiancรฉe. Itโs natural for you to believe her.โ
She shoved the documents into his arms and deftly returned to her seat.
โIf thereโs nothing else, Mr. Sinclair, I need to work.โ
Adrian stood silently, not leaving.
He hadnโt misheardโwas she actually jealous?
โI knew it wasnโt your fault earlier.โ His voice came from beside her, calm yet startling.
She had just regained her composure, but his words shook her again.
Adrian watched her slender back, his gaze deepening.
Seeing her fragile shoulders, a sudden ache pierced his heart.
Before Anna could speak, Adrian moved in front of her.
His expression softened.
โDonโt dwell on itโฆโ
โWhat I mean is, donโt let someone like that upset you.โ
His eyes flickered as he held back further concern.
Anna stared at him in stunned silence.
She was surprised by his trust, and even more by his concern.
He shouldโฆ hate her.
โMr. Sinclair, hereโs the quarterly report you requested.โ
Noahโs voice interrupted abruptly.
Anna snapped back to reality and lowered her head quickly.
โUnderstood. Iโll get back to work.โ
Adrian glanced at Noah and led him into the office.
Before turning away, he gave her a deep, lingering look.
Howard Lowell would be arriving at the company soon.
When that time came, he would uncoverโexactly what she was hiding.
