Chapter 60
Anna Ross changed into her pajamas and sank lazily into the sofa.
Mia Lawrence was still washing up in the bathroom.
She suddenly thought of her mother.
She wondered if her mother had already gone to bed at this hour.
She dialed the number.
The phone was picked up after just two rings.
Vivian Lowell's gentle voice came through the receiver. "Anna, you're still up so late? How was your day?"
Anna's nose tingled with emotion.
She forced a smile. "I'm fine, Mom. How about you? Why aren't you resting yet?"
Vivian chuckled softly. "I was just about to sleep. Silly child, don't worry about me. Everything is fine at home."
Hearing her mother's normal tone, Anna felt slightly relieved.
"Then rest early, Mom. I'm going to sleep too."
As long as her mother was safe with the Lowells, she had no other wishes.
She hung up just as Mia walked out, drying her hair.
"Anna, who were you talking to just now?"
"My mom. I suddenly missed her a little."
Anna gripped her phone and pulled Mia into the bedroom.
Mia threw herself onto the soft bedding. "Aren't you a little old to be clinging to your mom? I wish my mother would nag me less."
Anna got into bed from the other side and shot her a look. "Having a mother who nags you is a blessing. I think it's wonderful."
Mia was about to say something else when a phone ring cut through the air.
The caller ID showed Adrian Sinclair.
Anna's smile vanished instantly.
Mia leaned closer. "Who is it?"
"Adrian Sinclair."
"Answer it! See what he wants."
Anna didn't want to answer.
But he was still her boss.
She swiped to answer, her tone cold. "What is it?"
Mia curiously moved closer to the receiver.
A deep voice came from the other end. "Reminding you to be on time for work tomorrow. If you're still out playing, you'd better go back and sleep now. Don't be late again."
......
Anna responded flatly. "If it weren't for someone's disturbance, I would have been asleep long ago."
There was a brief silence on the other end.
Then came a soft hum from Adrian before the call abruptly ended.
Anna stared at her phone screen, her brow furrowed.
"Absolutely ridiculous. What a wicked capitalist!"
She knew better than to expect any kindness from him.
He only knew how to exploit her in different ways.
