Chapter 123
A black Maybach sat silently in the night.
Its body almost merged with the darkness.
The two people who had just passed by didn't notice its presence at all.
Adrian Sinclair leaned against the seat with an expressionless face.
His gaze was icy cold as he watched everything happening outside the window.
The driver in the front seat was so nervous his palms were sweating.
Since that pair of figures appeared, the temperature inside the car had plummeted to freezing.
All the oppressive feeling came from the man in the back seat.
The driver stole a glance through the rearview mirror.
Mr. Sinclair had just returned to the country today and came straight here.
Unexpectedly, it was to secretly watch that girl.
Even more surprising was that she was accompanied by another man.
This was completely unlike Mr. Sinclair's usual style.
Adrian's gaze remained fixed on that residential building.
Only when a certain window lit up did he speak indifferently. "Drive."
The driver immediately started the engine.
The vehicle quickly drove away, leaving only the sound of wind behind.
Anna Ross collapsed tiredly onto the sofa.
She still felt somewhat guilty remembering Lucas Evans seeing her home.
Ever since that incident, every time she had contact with Lucas, it felt like she was doing something wrong.
It was all because of that control freak Adrian.
Fortunately, he wasn't in New York.
Otherwise, if he saw, it would cause a huge uproar again.
While feeling relieved, Anna also thought she wasn't being normal.
Why should she listen to him?
Making friends was her freedom.
What did it have to do with Adrian?
What was she even afraid of?
She felt like something was missing at home.
"Sophia?"
She hadn't seen Sophia Roscente since she returned.
The apartment wasn't that big.
It was impossible not to hear her come in.
Anna pushed open the bedroom door.
It was empty inside.
She immediately became anxious.
Where could a young girl go so late at night?
She hurriedly dialed the phone.
It rang for a long time before being answered.
"Where are you? Why aren't you home?"
Sophia's cheerful voice came through. "I'm out having fun.
You go to sleep first, sis. Don't wait for me." Then she hung up.
Anna stared at her phone in a daze.
Then it occurred to her that Sophia knew New York better than she did.
Someone that old wouldn't get lost.
After plugging in her phone to charge, she opened the refrigerator.
Aside from the fruit she bought with her best friend last time, it was completely empty.
She picked up an apple and took a bite.
It seemed she needed to find time to go shopping.
The daytime work plus exercise had been exhausting.
She almost fell asleep as soon as her head hit the pillow.
She slept soundly through the night without any dreams.
When she woke up the next day, she instinctively looked beside her.
The bed was empty.
Sophia actually hadn't come back all night.
Didn't she say she had nowhere to go?
So where was she staying now?
Countless questions flooded Anna's mind.
She glanced at the time.
She decided to go to work first.
She would contact her later.
