Chapter 469

"Anna, what's wrong? Who was that?" Sophia tilted her head, noticing her staring blankly at the phone. She leaned in closer.

Anna Ross swiped her finger across the screen, ending the call. "Just work. I'm tired. Didn't feel like answering."

Sophia pressed her lips together, pulling out her own phone. She opened WeChat, hesitated for a few seconds, then locked the screen again.

Why should she be the one to apologize first? He was the one who ignored her. This time, he needed to learn his lesson.

Both lost in their own thoughts, the phone on the sofa rang again. Anna massaged her temples and answered under Sophia's watchful gaze.

"What is it?" Her tone was cold. He wouldn't bother her after work hours, would he?

The voice on the other end sounded urgent. "Where's Sophia?"

Anna glanced across the room. "At home."

"Got it." The call ended abruptly, leaving her frowning at the phone.

She couldn't be bothered to overthink it. She tossed the phone back onto the sofa.

Sophia lay sprawled on the couch, listless and drained.

Anna sighed. No amount of advice would help a couple's argument. They had to work it out themselves.

"Don't overthink it. Maybe he's searching everywhere for you right now." She didn't know Marcus Hill well, but she could see how much he cared for Sophia.

The doorbell suddenly rang.

Anna glanced at the figure collapsed on the sofa and resigned herself to answering the door.

The moment it opened, Marcus rushed in frantically. "My็ฅ–ๅฎ—! Finally found you!"

Anna stood frozen. Sophia bolted upright and pushed him away irritably. "Who asked you to look for me!? Weren't you on a blind date!?"

Marcus wrapped his arms around her. "I didn't go! I was lying!"

Anna breathed a sigh of relief. It seemed the misunderstanding would be cleared up today.

"Aren't you going to let me in?" A deep voice came from the doorway. Anna flinched, only now noticing Adrian Sinclair standing outside.

She stepped aside. Adrian's eyes swept over her before he entered the room.

Anna gently closed the door.

The two on the sofa were still tangled up. Sophia glared at Marcus, fuming.

"Take your argument outside." Adrian lifted his gaze lazily, his tone dripping with impatience.

Anna quietly sat to the side, deciding to remain silent.

Sophia immediately bristled. "This is my and Anna's home! If anyone should leave, it's you two!"

After her outburst, her courage faltered. She shrunk behind Marcus, muttering under her breath.

Adrian snorted coldly. "You're the one who chose him."

Marcus jumped up. "Adrian! What's that supposed to mean? What terrible thing did I do?"

Adrian glanced at him but said nothing more.
