Chapter 389
Forget it.
She didn't want to probe his thoughts anyway. He could think whatever he wanted.
Anna Ross didn't wish to speak with him any longer.
She slowly lay back down, intending to sleep.
But she accidentally brushed against her injury.
A soft gasp of pain escaped her lips.
Adrian Sinclair lowered his arm.
He strode over quickly to support her.
His expression was dark as he gently helped her lie back on the bed.
"How can someone be so clumsy?"
He couldn't resist adding a cold, mocking remark.
"......"
Anna had no energy to retort.
She simply closed her eyes and ignored him.
No one would think he was mute if he stayed quiet. Why did he always have to add such comments?
Adrian looked down at the person on the bed.
He schooled his expression.
In a low voice, he asked, "I'm short-handed right now."
"How about you come back and work for me?"
He finished with a light cough, his gaze shifting away.
Anna peeked out from under the covers.
Seeing his proud and aloof demeanor, she almost laughed.
"If you're short-handed, why didn't you say so earlier?"
"I could have asked your uncle to hire more new people."
"Also, you could have Miss Valentine assist you. Wouldn't that work?"
"You!"
Adrian paused.
He leaned forward, looking down at the person on the bed.
A slight smile touched his lips.
"Miss Valentine? I couldn't bear to see her work hard."
"So I'd still prefer if you came."
Anna's expression shifted.
She pressed her lips together.
"Right. Of course."
What did he mean?
He couldn't bear to see Miss Valentine work hard, but he was fine with her working herself to the bone?
The smile on Adrian's face lingered.
For some reason, he was in a very good mood now.
Much better than before.
Anna said nothing more.
She lay still in bed, gradually growing drowsy.
Adrian sat by her bedside, keeping her company.
He didn't leave.
He stayed with her the entire morning.
Faint sunlight streamed through the window.
It felt warm and comforting on her skin.
Anna felt very comfortable and was nearly asleep.
However, a sudden phone ringtone shattered the room's tranquility.
It also chased away her sleepiness.
She opened her eyes, listening for his movements.
Seeing the person sleeping soundly on the bed, Adrian frowned slightly.
He immediately picked up his phone and silenced the ring.
He was about to toss the phone aside.
But upon seeing the caller ID, he answered it.
Anna was still worried she might overhear something she shouldn't.
Adrian was already walking out with his phone.
His footsteps were light.
The door closed softly, as if he was afraid of waking her.
Anna turned her head, looking at the closed door.
Now she could hear the beat of her own heart.
She had thought that after everything that happened, she would hate him.
She thought she wouldn't want to see him again.
But after meeting him, she didn't seem to resist as much as she imagined.
Could it be that she was developing feelings she shouldn't?
Anna was startled by her own thoughts.
She blinked at the ceiling.
But he already had a girlfriend.
What was she thinking?
Was she going to become the kind of person she despised the most?
No matter what, she could not break someone else's relationship.
"What are you thinking about so deeply?"
"I thought you were asleep."
Adrian pushed the door open and came in.
He saw her frowning, occasionally pinching herself in a comical manner.
